Random Movie Review - Baywatch (2017)

So many of us who grew up in the 90s may remember a little show about being a lifeguard. It was one of the few shows that made David Hasselhoff a household name and lots of people liked it. But seeing as Paramount just love making films based on things we like and then ruin it completely (like Sonic the Hedgehog), naturally Baywatch would be on their radar and honestly as someone who didn't watch much of the original show but a lot of the Muppet parodies of it, its something that doesn't really need to be made into a film because there isn't much you can do with lifeguards (at least where I come from anyway). So let's see if slow motion beach running still plays a part in this film:

Set at the Emerald Bay in Florida, the team known as Baywatch are a group of lifeguards who protect the bay and save people on the beach. Having managed to do quite a number of rescues, Lt Mitch Buchannon (played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) is beloved by everyone except for this one police guy and his boss of sorts. During one of his shifts, he stumbles across some drugs which may or may not have some connections to businesswoman Victoria Leeds (played by Priyanka Chopra) who is now the owner of a nearby beach club and has been bribing the council to increase her stake in the bay. Tryouts for prospective new lifeguards take place in which three stand out; among them is Matt Brody (played by Zac Efron) who is an arrogant Olympic champion who went down hill following a vomiting incident in one of his races. He and Mitch get off to a rocky start as do the others, but they must all come together if they have a chance at preventing any more drugs from coming in.

There are a serious amount of jokes to do with racism, dicks, boobs and other things. But as this is a film set on the beach, this kind of thing was going to be seen in it any way. Much of the plot and writing is predictable "been there, done that" stuff like one instance when they announce who the three people becoming lifeguards are going to be and I'm sure many of us already knew that just by watching where the camera focuses. Its probably one of the few bad films that you expect the worse and the worse is what you get. Only praise I can give is that it does have a pretty decent cast who I'm sure would be better off not being involved in a film like this. 3/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
