Its never easy to make a TV series based on an unfinished book series. This was indeed the case from the fifth season onwards though it wouldn't be until the sixth season where it would be completely original though George R.R. Martin would contribute by giving the showrunners a taster if you prefer of what his next couple of books will have. So we are here with the final season of Game of Thrones where the big question we all had was who would ultimately take the iron throne and who out of the main characters would still remain. This will be a spoiler free review, but please bear in mind that some elements may be spoiled if there is no other way to word everything out. With that said, let's go one last time to the seven kingdoms where winter is here (to an extent of course):
Comprising of only six episodes (the shortest season overall), we witness the beginning and end of two conflicts: The Great War against the Army of the Dead led by the Night King (reprised by Vladimir Furdik) and the Last War for control of the Iron Throne. Many characters die, many of them live and some get a new purpose for living while we see a lot of twists and turns that may make us change our minds on some characters.
The biggest thing about this final season is that given its focus on the two main wars that the last several seasons have been building up to, everyone is acting their socks off to make the last season the best it can be. Sure there may be some surprises and disappointments as well as some shocking moments coming from characters we are all rooting for. But in the end, it was a great if not very short season. It was always going to have a mixed response from fans and critics regardless of the outcome which although surprising, it kind of felt like it was the best way to end considering where all the characters are at in the end. So yeah I will admit that its not the absolute best season. But its still great though. 8/10
