Although a long time coming, here we have the long awaited prequel to The Dark Crystal which I talked about yesterday. Although this has come many years later, the franchise has been pretty active with lots of books being released. But what many of us wanted to see was what the world was like before the events of the film and well, here it is. A series created for Netflix with an all star cast so let's get into it:
So as a prequel the events are set before the events of the film (possibly years before it). The Gelfling race is as strong as ever, but a group of them soon come to realise the true nature of their Skeksis overlords. As such this prompts three Gelfling named Rian (voiced by that one Kingsman, Taron Egerton), Brea (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) and Deet (voiced by Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel) to rise up against them and inspire a rebellion in an attempt to stop them after learning of a horrifying secret that threatens the entire planet.
When I compare this to the film, I find that the Skeksis look more well presented. It was never going to be easy to do a series with animatronics, but at least now there is some CGI involved. Its a great series that helps expands the universe of the franchise and gives us an idea of what life was like on Thra prior to the film. I personally felt it was groundbreaking and probably worthy of some awards if such a thing can be done. 9/10
