So bizzarly there are more American Christmas films than there are British ones and after seeing this, its pretty obvious why that is. I mean sure we have a lot of things here, but American films are all about being as big as they can be (and I apologise for any insults I may have said here) and for the most part, that's ok. So here we are with another classic "real Santa but confused" story and with an all star cast so chances are that we're in for a real treat. So let's get to it:
The film revolves around Steve Anderson (played by that jerk villain from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Rafe Spall) who has been released from prison after being a getaway driver just a few days before Christmas. His parole officer Ruth (played by Joanna Scanlan) informs him that he is to attend every session or he will be sent back to prison on any occasion that he misses. With reports of loose reindeers roaming the streets of London, Steve gets a surprise call from his son Tom (played by the young Elton John, Kit Connor) who informs him that he has found someone claiming to be Santa (played by that British guy who appears in almost everything, Jim Broadbent) and what follows is a series of bizzare events that leads to Santa being sent to prison and some shocking revelations are revealed.
You know as a film that is trying to be like that story I mentioned earlier, its not too bad. Some decent performances from all involved with a worthwhile conclusion. All based on the premise that people believe that Santa is non-existant and anyone claiming to be the real deal is a madman unless proven otherwise. Great fun and a few good laughs to come out of this too. 8/10
