AC18: Random Movie Review - The Irishman

So we're kind of breaking the rules a bit here for this month to look at the latest film by Martin Scorsese. Now although the guy isn't in my top 10 list of all time favourite directors, I will say that he has made some great gangster films which as some of you know are among my all time favourite genres when it comes to films, TV shows, comics and video games. Sure he has had some controversial views recently on films that he says are not cinema, but that's OK because he knows how to make great films and just because he has that view, doesn't mean that he is right or you have to listen to him. So here we are with his latest one that has three big names that are associated with gangster films. So let's get to it:

The story which is based on true events, focuses on a truck driver called Frank Sheeran (played by big name number one, Robert De Niro) who as an elderly World War II veteran, recounts his time as a Mafia hitman for the Bufalino crime family led by one Russell Bufalino (played by big name number two, Jo Pesci) which during his time, involves a lot of guns being dropped into a river, having a family before having an affair and working for the oh so powerful Jimmy Hoffa (played by big name number three, Al Pacino).

Its a pretty big film that plays out like a traditional gangster film with mafia families, lots of violence and guns and so much more. Its a good film that shows that the four people behind this film are still alive and kicking and can still play the role of a gangster after so many years of being in the film industry. It is a long film, but the extended time is totally worth it. Also despite hating Marvel films, it looks like Scorsese managed to do something they did which was de-aging the actors which like the Marvel films can be distracting at first. But is soon put to rest with the moving story that can and may surprise you at every turn. Also quite surprising that these veterans of the film industry would have their film on a more modern platform like Netflix rather than in the cinema and with a major film studio. But overall its a great film and probably one of the best ones to come out this year. 9/10
