Random Movie Review - Good Burger

So most of you will know Saturday Night Live as that American comedy show that has a lot of comedians and actors who would use that show as a means to boost their careers and claim stardom. Nickelodeon had something similar called All That which had a lot of young aspiring actors and comedians participate in various sketches. Much like with Saturday Night Live, the people in All That would go on to have their own shows on the channel, most notably Amanda Bynes, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. The two men would star in their own sitcom called Kenan & Kel and the show would go on to become a big hit. Then they went and did this film based on their famous sketch from All That. Now for as long as I have seen their films, Nickelodeon's films have for the most part been pretty good. The ones based on their NickToons have been especially good due to how faithful they remain to the animation side of things. Of course everyone doesn't like their film adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (though that may not be their fault) and most also don't like this film either and its pretty clear as to why that is. So it may be called Good Burger, but let's see how good it really is:

A slacking high school student known as Dexter Reed (played by Kenan) is forced to take up a summer job when he takes his mother's car for a joyride and accidentally crashes the car into the car of his teacher Mr. Wheat (played by Sinbad the comedian). In exchange for not sending him to jail, Mr. Wheat has Dexter pay for the damages which he agrees to. At first, he ends up working at the soon to be opened Mondo Burger, but after some differences with the manager (played by Jan Schweiterman), he gets fired and subsequently gets employed at the much smaller Good Burger joint. There he meets the clueless cashier Ed (played by Kel) and the pair form a close bond while remaining unaware that he may have been responsible for the car crash. That plus a rivalry between the two burger joints begins.

Although certainly one for the fans of their beloved sitcom, the film is a bit predictable. We all know there is a rivalry between two burger joints and the villain makes himself known very early on. Some of the comedy is good and the chemistry between the two leads are as great as ever. But its not that great of a film with some bits being more annoying and silly than others. Having said that however, out of all of Nickelodeon's so called bad films, I would watch this more than watching any of the turtle films because Kenan and Kel are very talented men even in an otherwise not great film. 6/10
