Random Movie Review - Vixen: The Movie

So a while back, I did a review of Constantine: City of Demons which is considered one of those series where if you were to edit and put all episodes together, you would no doubt get what would be a feature film. The same can be said for Vixen: The Movie as that too was a series before being turned into a film and with the Arrowverse having a lot of changes being made due to the annual crossover event, it felt like the best time to talk about a series that I have not yet had a chance to view that is part of that universe until now. So let's see what's on offer here:

Combining both seasons and being a tie in to the Arrow episode "Taken", we meet Mari McCabe (voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke) who returns to Detroit and inherits her family's Tantu Totem which grants her animal like abilites such as the speed of a cheetah, the strength of a gorilla and the movement of a fish among many others. She then gets into contact with historian Professor Macalester (voiced by Sean Patrick Thomas) to learn more about the totem. But over time slowly accepts that she can now be a hero which attracts the attention of the Green Arrow (reprised by Stephen Amell), The Flash (reprised by Grant Gustin) and members of what would become the Legends of Tomorrow who at first are hostile, but slowly come to accept her as a hero and she takes on enemies from her past.

Interestingly Vixen was originally going to have her own live action TV series or join the Legends of Tomorrow. But due to scheduling conflicts with Megalyn, neither happened and someone else was put in her place for Legends of Tomorrow playing as her ancestor with the same name and abilites. Anyway this series is pretty good. It does well to maintain the animation style that recent animated DC films have been using for a while and although it is her own show first and foremost, its nice to see other Arrowverse characters appearing who all look very much like their live action counterparts and none of them steal the show which is great. A good series turned film that's worth a watch if you enjoy the other Arrowverse stuff and it does clear confusion on where she came from in that one Arrow episode. 9/10
