So when I first came across this game, I confused it for Friday the 13th: The Game. But you can kind of see why I would think that because of the picture above and possibly other things too. Its also one of those games that released on new platforms once a year starting with the PC in 2016, then the PS4 and Xbox One in 2017, the two years later onto the Switch and finally this year on iOS and Android devices. So let's see what we are in for:
The game's story is centred on a character called the Entity who is a supernatural being that has the ability to bring many killers and those who never overcome a tragedy in their lives, into the Entity's reality. Through means of convincing or force, the Entity has these beings do its bidding by killing so-called survivors so that it can maintain its existence. So that's the story and with it comes a number of characters to choose from. The survivors can be four of 22 characters and the killer can be one of 20 characters. Both character selections have a mix of both original and third party characters from across the horror genre though the killers are all given nicknames rather than their actual names in the game. Such characters include Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, Ash Williams, Leatherface, Pyramid Head, Ghostface and others coming from TV shows, films, video games and possibly comics too across the horror genre. As one of the survivors, you are tasked with setting things up to slow down the killer while trying to find and repair five generators to get out. They cannot attack the killer so their only way to survive is to escape. The killer's goal is to well kill the survivors either directly or by performing a sacrifice, the latter of which is the Entity's preferred choice for its survival. Survivors play from a third person perspective and killers have a first person perspective. The game has these skill checks that take place which are treated as bonuses after a round or points to level up your characters and unlock certain bonuses.
There is a great lack of Friday the 13th content in this game, but I think because the previously mentioned game was made during the time this game was being released, perhaps it was off limits. It feels a bit incomplete without that franchise, but for what we got I think it's great. It may be way too similar to other games like it and may lack some innovation. But its rare to see all these great franchises come together for this. Its good and worth a play if you enjoy the horror genre. 8/10
