AC6: Random Movie Review - Castle in the Sky

So this was Studio Ghibli's first ever film. Hard to imagine that so many great anime films such as this would've never left Japan had people from the west not intervened and be wanting to bring the films as well as anime in general to the rest of the world. Its thanks to Disney and Toonami (and possibly many other things too, but them especially) that Anime is now more popular than ever. I mean it would be nice if all of them had an English dub, but it's a big ask and I'm grateful that we even get them here in the western part of the world. Some people are turned off by it, but its really nothing to be worried about. Some can be weird and have over the top emotions (mainly for comedic effect), but then you get really good ones that have great stories, memorable characters and themes that make us question things in life. But I will agree that there are far too many that for lack of a better phrase are NSFW and come close to being borderline porn. But not this film so let's get to it:

Set in the late 20th century, a boy called Pazu (voiced in English by James Van Der Beek) and a girl called Sheeta (voiced in English by Anna Paquin) come together to find a crystal that is able to make things float in air and protect it from military forces who seek to use it to find the titular legendary Castle in the Sky. That and some shenanigans with pirates take place too.

You know for their first ever film (which at the time was animated for someone other than themselves), its good. Very typical 80s fantasy for the time it came out, but still good. Well animated, lovable and memorable characters, a great voice cast (though some sound older than the characters they voice) and it basically helped put Studio Ghibli on the map even though we in the western parts of the world wouldn't be seeing this until over ten years later after its Japanese release. Also got to give credit to Mark Hamill who once again does a very good job of voicing the villain which actually sounds close to being British than his regular American accent. 9/10
