Random TV Season Review - The Irregulars (Season 1)

I'm not really sure how many adaptations of Sherlock Holmes there have been. But I can definitely say that its almost certainly the second most adapted British thing with the first no doubt being A Christmas Carol. So we have this adaptation where for what may be the very first time, Holmes and Watson (and most associated characters) are supporting characters instead of taking centre stage. This got me interested in this new Netflix series because I've always seen the pair leading the charge in most adaptations that I have seen and/or played. So let's take a look dear reader:

The series is about a group of teenagers who live on the streets of London. Calling themselves the Irregulars and led by the headstrong, fierce and protective Bea (played by Thaddea Graham), they get hired by John Watson (played by Royce Pierreson) to solve a series of paranormal cases that get increasingly bigger and bigger over time. Even though Sherlock Holmes (played by Henry Lloyd-Hughes) takes the credit for their work, the team gain a new member in the form of prince Leopold (played by Harrison Osterfield) who despite his heritage, willingly joins the team and provides resources and knowledge while taking a liking to Bea.

I like this adaptation. It actually does something different that no other Sherlock Holmes adaptation has ever done which is making them not the main focus. Which in a way, makes this one stand out. At only eight episodes long in this first of hopefully many seasons, it's pretty regular, but with something quite special about it's charming cast. Some episodes are better than others, but it's good fun with an element of horror and mystery. 8/10
