It's been a long time since I last tapped into the world of Trine. But here we are with the long awaited fourth instalment as it continues to be that one series about co-operative play with a choice of characters each with one goal in mind and all with different but usable abilities to help. It's been a best-selling series since its inception and continues to be that case with the fourth game. So let's take a look:
Our three heroes from the previous games, return and are sent on a quest to retrieve a prince who suffers from dark dreams that manifest into real monsters. With the monsters posing a real threat to their world with darkness following them, the heroes' mission is a desperate one indeed. If you know the series by now, you know how it works. You and a few others can play as any one of the heroes in side scrolling levels that includes a bit of puzzle solving and combat. There's also a skill tree (don't think I really need to explain what that is) and a great variety of levels that look and feel great.
Lots of fans were left a bit disappointed with the misfire in the third game. So I guess in a way it's nice to see this game be a welcome return to what made the series great in the first place albeit playing it a bit safe. Some technical issues and lackluster puzzle solving here and there makes this game still good but not as good as what came before. It also perfectly demonstrates how co-operative play should work. Involving everyone and not leaving anyone behind in the process. 8/10
