During the pandemic, I've been playing a few multiplayer games and Among Us is one of those games. It's been around since 2018, but never really gained popularity until the pandemic hit. Kind of like with some other games that have been out for ages, but this is good. It's a common thing with many TV shows, films and video games in which they start to get popular again after a long period of time due to things happening in the world. But the question I'm sure you may have about this is how a game that looks like something made with Flash could become so popular. It is a good question, but sometimes a good game doesn't need to have the best graphics out there to be good. So let's take a look:
For each game, there are between four and ten players. Among them, there can be up to three imposters all of whom can get up to mischief and kill other players. Whereas everyone else can go about doing various tasks (in the form of minigames) while also having the ability to report any problems and figuring out who the imposter or imposters are via hitting the Emergency button or reporting a dead body. There are a choice of maps to choose from which can be a spaceship, an airship or even an FBI styled building. Imposters also get tasks to do in order to blend in, but are often unable to complete said tasks due to their status. When a player dies, they spend the rest of the session as ghosts who can chat with other ghosts, be able to freely move around the map without any problems and carry out their tasks. Imposters win by either killing off most of the players or do a successful sabotage that is left unresolved. On the other hand, players win by finishing their tasks and successfully identify the Imposters.
Although the very nature of the game is to find the one causing trouble, it's pretty fun and very simple to play. Great to play during a pandemic for sure and just goes to show that you don't need fancy graphics to make a good game. I don't know if it would have ever been as popular as it is now if Covid didn't happen. But it exists and its worth a play. 8/10
