It's the week of Black Friday and as usual, everyone wants a piece of the action. Sales everywhere, city centres being warzones even with Covid rules. It's pretty bonkers when these things come around, but many of us forget that this is actually a more American thing if anything, just like Halloween and Thanksgiving (even though us UK folks have the former ourselves anyway). So what has that got anything to do with today's game, you may be asking. Well Hammerting is also on sale and was published by Team17. The same people behind the Worms series and countless games from a vast array of genres. Plus dwarves are in this game which is usually something that interests me. So let's take a look:
The game is a mining colony sim that's played vertically and has dwarves. You manage a dwarf clan, establish a mining operation, craft things and search for glory, riches and of course danger. The clan you get is small at first, which gives players reason to start the operation asap. These dwarves are forced under the surface due to the conflict that rages on the surface. Over time, the clan will expand as well the crafted items you make. Creatures on the surface will have requests for the dwarves to deliver, which will help both them and the dwarves in doing some good and getting them out of manual labour. Each dwarf has their own skillset and personality, and the further down you go, the better the loot can be. Oh, and you can mod the game and there is online co-op too.
So I heard that this was a game that, upon release, had issues that have since been fixed. It's definitley a unique game in that you don't usually play this sort of game in the way it's presented. It may be a bit boring at first, but over time it starts to get interesting and, in a way, fun. 8/10
