Christmas parties were once these big massive events. But since the pandemic, they have either become extinct or toned down greatly. I honestly didn't know what I was going to expect from this film. Its not like any Christmas film I have watched before, but it is like some comedy films I have seen before this. A film where people just cut loose and have fun. Yes this has happened before and with so many well known comedy actors appearing in this, I'm hoping to have a good time. We shall see as we look at this strange experience for a film:
It's December 2016 and CEO of Zenotek Carol Vanstone (played by Jennifer Aniston), pays a visit to the Chicago branch. She feels that the company has failed to meet the company quota and threatens to lay off 40% of the workforce, cut everyone's bonuses and cancel the annual Christmas party. In a desperate attempt to stop all that from happening, Carol's brother Clay (played by T.J. Miller) and CTO Josh Parker (played by Jason Bateman) explain that they are close to securing a deal with a financial giant so Carol gives them one last chance to save the company. The pair and one of the branch managers, go to meet the giant known as Walter Davis (played by Courtney B. Vance) who is concerned by their culture. Seeing an opportunity and against the wishes of Carol, the pair decide to go ahead with the party as a way to allow Walter to see the culture in action. What follows is madness, festive cheer and a big old mindf**k that makes this office party, perhaps one many aren't going to forget anytime soon.
Well that wasn't quite what I was expecting. This film is, as I thought, a film that should not be taken seriously and exists for people to have a good time. It's funny and over the top, and all the cast are used well. The story and plot is a bit overstuffed, but it's a fun film and one that clearly tries something different to the usual or traditional approach to a Christmas film. 8/10
