OK so it's not quite Christmas themed, but it is in snow, so it does kind of count unless you live in Australia (where at this time of the year, it's their summer). I have probably said this dozens of times, but I'm not all that keen on sports games. Most I find to be boring and not at all interesting, but there are a few out there that I do like. Particularly the ones that have a more cartoon-ish feel to them and ones featuring familiar but beloved characters such as those from Nintendo, Sega and Disney. But today, we are going to look at perhaps the only known non-cartoonish winter sports game that PC gamers can get a taste of besides those with PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles. Let's take a look:
As this is a sports game, there isn't really a story per se. The game is primarily an open world online multiplayer game set in the Alps. Specifically Mont Blanc which is known as the tallest mountain in Europe. DLC for the game has added new explorable areas such as Japanese and Korean mountains, among others. Gamers can experience the game from first and third-person perspectives and utilizes GoPro-like camera angles. With DLC included, the game has 8 total activities for gamers to try and can switch between each one via the game's menu wheel. As the game works as a virtual space for online players, you can all do the activities together or alone, and fast travel to places may be key in some situations. There are plenty of hidden things scattered in the world for you to find if you need it, and you may need to use binoculars to find said places. Like how in Space Jam: A New Legacy the characters get style points, this game has trick points which are awarded for what else, doing tricks in the sports that you choose to do. You can get awards at the end of each activity and be able to retry should you crash. Plenty of opportunities to share stuff with the game community and on social networks, such as captures and replays.
Always online is something that I have always been against because not all of us have internet and those of us who do, may not have the best internet connection out there. But apart from that, this is very much what open world games can do. You get loads of open world games that just want you to follow the story and then maybe find collectibles, but with this game, you are free to do everything at your own pace and I like that. Plus it is quite impressive to look at so yeah give this a try if you are into this sort of thing. 8/10
