Random TV Season Review - Peacemaker (Season 1)

DC really messed up with their cinematic universe. Initially wanting it to be helmed by Zack Snyder, but then changed course due to a death in his family and honestly, I can't keep up with the changes in direction. Goes one way, then another and then another. You know, apparently the DC Extended Universe was only going to be just films initially with no TV shows in order to allow everyone to make the best possible thing they can without worrying about certain aspects. Then came James Gunn who went on to create what is arguably a much better Suicide Squad film (though we are still waiting for the Ayer cut of the original film so that may all change) and then created this spin-off show. Yeah, it was quite surprising to say the least and I guess in a way, he did sort of save that cinematic universe and bring it back on course. Even with another cinematic universe in the works, but just centred on Batman. Before I saw The Suicide Squad, I personally only knew some members of the new team. Rick Flagg, Captain Boomerang and Harley Quinn I of course know already from the first film and other things. I was also aware of King Shark and Polka Dot Man too, but the rest were all new to me. Since that film, I have always seen Peacemaker (reprised by John Cena) as an action figure come to life. It's just that look about him that I feel that way. So let's see what he got up to before and after The Suicide Squad because (Spoiler Alert!!!) he somehow survived his fate in that film:

So in the film, Peacemaker sustained a lot of injuries. At the start of this series, he fully recovers and is forced to join up with an A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad called "Project Butterfly". They, as the name implies, are on a mission to identify and kill parasites that resemble the appearance of a butterfly which are slowly taking over human bodies across the world. Of course, he has the choice to go back to prison, but goes along with this squad and tries to reconnect with his father and pet eagle in the process, the former of which he shares a dark past with.

Without trying to jinx it, it looks like whatever James Gunn creates, it's bound to give us a good time, which speaks true for this show. Despite a few dramatic moments, it's a lot of fun with a great soundtrack, a talented cast and plenty of violence that makes Peacemaker a more relatable hero than a villain as he was depicted in the film. Definitely worth checking out if you have access to it (here in the UK, it's part of Sky and Now). 9.5/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
