TV Show Review - The Boys Presents: Diabolical (Season 1)

So the good people at Amazon are hard at work on the next season of The Boys, so clearly something is needed to fill the void. And so the void gets filled with this. A series of stories to do with the characters and settings of the show, each with their own animation style. Yes people, The Boys is just the latest pop culture franchise to get an anthology series, joining with the likes of The Matrix, Batman, Star Wars and many others. Should be a lot of fun, so let's get to it:

So we are given eight episodes of different side stories set within The Boys universe. Some featuring familiar characters from the main show, while others are just there showing us that there are others besides the main characters that have powers. As a reminder, The Boys universe is one that has superheroes who are loved and adored by the public, but their personalities are far from heroic. And it's basically two factions at war, with one being the corrupt superheroes and the other being vigilantes. So yeah, pretty fun and intense stuff.

I've never really had problems with anthology shows. I think as long as the franchise is popular enough with plenty of stories to tell, then doing this kind of thing is good. Keeps people invested in the franchise, and it's just a way to help expand the universe and mythos at large. As for this series, it's in every way like the main show. Fun, intense and definitely not for the little ones in its social commentary and animation styles, which are all very good. Looking forward to seeing the third season of the main show, but this is a good series to tide us over till then. 9/10
