Random Video Game Review - Wildermyth

One of the great things about games in Early Access is that you can play it long before its full release and be able to help developers with any issues that may arise. Wildermyth is just one of those games that managed to go into early access and has since had its full release on Steam, with a Nintendo Switch version currently in the works. It's also another game that takes advantage of a procedural generating mechanic that has been hugely successful in games such as Minecraft, but has also been the subject of being used wrongfully to make some pretty pi** poor games. But not all games use it in that way and I hope this game uses it well, so let's take a look:

The game is a tactical role playing game in which players can choose from several randomized characters, all of which gradually grow into battle-hardened heroes and acquire new traits. These lead into additional narrative and gameplay opportunities where friendships and rivalries will be made and characters will age over time too. The main campaign follows major story beats, but the actual development of characters made is done through a procedural generating system, which makes each playthrough different for everyone that plays this game. As with all or most RPGs, yes there are turn based battles with the design and style of them being reminiscent of the XCOM games. Choices will also have to be made in the campaign map outside of combat, in which characters can do a wide array of things, such as rebuilding a village. But it could mean less time to prepare for an invasion, among other things.

This game is pretty good. Credit to the developers for making a near impossible thing like procedural generation, work in a new, creative and innovative way with the storytelling. It's also well presented and definitely worth your time if you have the time to spare. 9/10
