Random Video Game Review - Deep Rock Galactic

Another game currently on sale on Steam and also one that came in the most recent Humble Bundle too. There have been tons of games that have tried and mostly failed to be in every way like Minecraft. I guess where they have mastered the procedurally generated mechanic, others have just missed the mark. A few games I have reviewed on this blog have all tried to be like that game. Some have succeeded, but nothing can quite compare to that particular game. So today we have another game that tries just that. It's a first-person shooter, so this should be interesting. Let's go:

The game is a 1-4 player game where players must work together in exploring a very destructible, but procedurally generated cave system. It follows a PvE combat style meaning that there is not much point in killing other players. You get assigned various missions, which can range from finding specific minerals to stealing alien eggs and retrieving lost equipment. Usually a main objective plus a secondary one if you are going the Completionist route, which can give you extra rewards once completed. The game is largely set on the planet Hoxxes IV which in-universe is regarded as a dangerous planet, but is nevertheless full of minerals and other useful things. As you fight enemies and the like, you get a choice of four classes, each with their own unique set of skills and so forth.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable game. It does well to give us something like Minecraft, but with a more sci-fi feel to it with dwarves. It's got action, lots of things to destroy and collect and although the premise may sound similar to a certain Lego game from many years ago, it's still good for what it is. But definitely one best played with others, for sure. 9/10
