Random Video Game Review - Phoenix Point

So Steam has this game down as one in the horror genre, but also seems to have elements of sci-fi. It's also very much a strategic turn based RPG, which is definitely things that pique my interest in games. Bought to us by some of the people who helped make the XCOM series and definitely see this as that series' spiritual successor, we are hopefully in for a good time. There's a lot to cover here, so let's get to it:

The game is set in 2047 on an Earth that is in the midst of an alien invasion. Lovecraft inspired horrors are out on the verge to wipe out humanity, and you play as the leader of a cell in this thing called Phoenix Project, with a lone base as your starting point. You play as you want with Steam Workshop support as you take on continuously mutating aliens that adapt to your tactics, thus meaning every challenge is different to clearly make things interesting. You will also encounter various other factions trying to reclaim the Earth, and you will of course be able to equip and command units. With the ability to take direct control of the actions of your units of soldiers.

The game is... well, OK at best. It's nothing too groundbreaking and does feel very unbalanced. But for what it's trying to be, it does well there. Not sure if we will be seeing more of this franchise going forward, especially if it's trying to be XCOM's spiritual successor. But it does try well, so I will give it that. 71/0
