Random Video Game Review - Deathloop

First review of November, and we are looking at a game from last month's Humble Choice bundle of games. Bought to us by a developer that knows the true meaning of vanilla, but clearly has no way of stopping the modders from well modding their games with all this stuff. Yes I am of course talking about Bethesda who these days are part of the Disney of the gaming world, Microsoft. A company known for the Windows operating system and also the Xbox brand of consoles and games. This game has been around on PC and the PS5 for a little while, but recently got ported to Xbox Series X/S, so it seems like a good time for us to check it out. So let's take a look at a Bethesda game that is definitely NOT the next Skyrim or Fallout or Doom:

Set in an alternate 1960s setting, Colt Vahn (voiced by Jason E. Kelley), wakes up from a dream concerning him being murdered by an unknown woman. He has severe amnesia as he tries to figure out who he is and where he is. He gets guided by alternate versions of himself who all tell to try and break this time loop that he is trapped in, and must find and kill these beings known as Visionaries before the day ends to do just that. But matters are made worse when enemies sent by Julianna Blake (voiced by Ozioma Akagha) are hunting him down. So a lot to tackle for this Colt guy. So basically it's a game with a time limit of sorts (in actuality it's a case of you are free to do as you please, but moving between districts will advance time), and you have to kill all the Visionaries within the time limit or risk a reset of the day. You can use an array of abilities such as parkour and guns which are very much in line with previous games that Arkane (the actual developer, Bethesda are just publishers in this instance) have done in the past. Avoid or take out guards as you progress in the game, learn about Colt's targets and how they go about things, and figure out the order of said targets if you can. Each district Colt visits will have people going about their routines, which can change depending on the time of day that you visit. There is also the option to control Julianna, in which you are thrown into someone else's game and must use whatever resources are at your disposal to take out Colt.

The game is pretty good. It's definitely one that tries to mimic the idea of being stuck in a time loop that originally came from films such as Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow, and the art style is pretty neat. Julianna's role can be a bit invasive and not at all interesting. But the rest of the game is fine and a good one to play through while we wait for bigger triple A games (even though this was published and developed by companies known for game like that). 8/10
