Birthday Special: Double Movie Review - Venom: Let There Be Carnage + Morbius

So right now in the world, we have two very different Marvel cinematic universes. One is by the company's own film studio which consists largely of all the Marvel characters that they still own the rights too with a few deals made with other studios to keep certain characters in such as Spider-Man and Hulk. The other is one by Sony who, until recently, were making Spider-Man films and had been working on their own cinematic universe for some time with Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man films. Though that sadly never came to fruition, so they reworked a few of the Marvel projects they already had going to give us, for lack of a better name, Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters. Or in other words, the cinematic universe of characters that Sony still own the rights too which they said is set in the multiverse that the MCU has established quite recently. With all that aside, let's talk about two films that make me wonder if Sony actually know what they are doing with their Marvel characters. Let's go:

Venom: Let There Be Carnage
In 1996, the lover of a young Cletus Kasady (reprised by Woody Harrelson) is taken away to an institute that apparently can limit her screaming powers. All unbeknowest to Cletus who would later get a taste of the symbiote that Eddie Brock (reprised by Tom Hardy) has just prior to his execution in prison. Going by the name Carnage, Cletus and the symbiote work together to free his lover and also take on Brock and Venom. Meanwhile, those two continue to figure out how to be heroes and all that. I will admit that despite the issues that the first film had, at least this one embraces the silliness and can actually be a little more enjoyable than the first one. Far from perfect though, but worth it for the credits scene if anything. 7/10

Morbius
We start at a hospital in Greece, where a young Michael Morbius (played by Jared Leto) meets and befriends his surrogate brother Lucien, whom he renames Milo (played by Matt Smith). Both having the same blood illness and a desire to be normal, which leads to Morbius going to medical school to be a doctor in the hopes to find a cure for them both. Many years pass and Morbius undergoes an illegal experiment with vampire bats, which seemingly cures him. But with the side effect of becoming a vampire, he sets out to figure out if this is want he wants just as a threat comes about that may hurt him on an emotional level. Again worth it for the credits scene, this film is pretty bland. Predictable plot, uninspiring effects and more, makes this not worth being made. At least with the Venom films, they know what they want to do and are getting better. But for this non-Venom film, they could've worked on it a bit more, I'd say. 4/10
