TV Special Review - The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

So, seeing as there is not much in the way of video game stuff set or based on Christmas stuff, felt it would be good to take a look at a Christmas special of everyone's favourite galaxy defenders who had a video game themselves some time ago. Sure, it may just be a glorified way to promote Volume 3 which given where James Gunn is these days, may end up being the last for these heroes. Though in a way, it was Star Wars that had a lot of holiday specials on Disney+ last year, so only right for Marvel to follow suite. Who knows, we may even get another set of specials tied to one franchise or company next year (which wouldn't surprise me given Disney's upcoming milestone year) so let's take a look at this:

Following their departure from adventuring with Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy manage to take Knowhere off the Collector for a price and set about trying to rebuild it back to how it was. With Christmas fast approaching, Drax (reprised by Dave Bautista) and Mantis (reprised by Pom Klementieff) want to give Star-Lord (reprised by Chris Pratt) a present, following his backstory of why he doesn't usually celebrate the holiday after what Yondu (reprised by Michael Rooker) did one year when he was young. The pair set course for Earth with the intent of finding Star-Lord's childhood hero, Kevin Bacon (played by the man himself) and start to learn more about the holiday just as shenanigans take place when trying to acquire the guy who here in the UK, is the main man for EE adverts.

For lack of a better phrase, this special, much like Marvel's previous special of sorts, is filler. It doesn't really do much to move the cinematic universe forward, other than give us a look at what we may come to expect in the next feature film. But it has some comedy, a few hit songs, a few callbacks to previous events, Kevin Bacon and even a few stabs at DC too. Pretty good fun, even if it's not quite the special you may be expecting from these guys. 9/10
