Yep, even the egg yolk that has taken Japan by storm, now has a TV series. I'm not a person that likes eating eggs if it's just that and nothing else. If it's cooked into something like cake, that's fine, I will eat that. Just not on its own. So when I saw this appear on Netflix, I wasn't sure what I would expect. The most I knew about Gudetama is that it's a sentient egg yolk with a personality and all that. But that's it. So be interesting to see how this series goes, but I did here, it was a combination of live action and animation. Might be fun or a waste of time. Either way, let's take a look:
Gudetama (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) bursts from his egg and upon realizing he is an egg yolk, he comes to terms with the fact that he may end up on someone's plate and chooses to be lazy. Another egg hatches a chick called Shakipiyo (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey) who is determined to find her mother and takes Gudetama with her. The pair meet some strange food characters who have different perspectives of life and also come across some real life people too. What awaits them beyond the fridge they were born in, may put them both out of their comfort zone.
I like the animation of this series. It's really expressive and simple in an otherwise largely live action series. The characters are all memorable and I found some enjoyment in it, even though I don't quite get how a sentient egg yolk, became popular. But anyway, give it a watch if you can. 8/10
