Random Video Game Review - Beacon Pines

Now we have a very unusual game set in a book. But rather than be a case of choosing a path like in those old text adventures, you are actually playing as a character in a book, navigating the world within it. Kind of like how one of the Winnie the Pooh films play out, with the whole shtick being set in a book. It's published by Fellow Traveller, which I've played games of before and maintain a good standing with in terms of the games they create, including this one. Much of what they do is pretty good, so let's see how this game fares:

You, the player, are given a mysterious book and play the roles of both the reader of the book and the book's main character, Luka. Guided by the voice of Kirsten Mize, Luka and his friends are the only ones that notice the warehouse being a little stranger than usual and set out to make new friends and change the course of fate, among other things too. As you play the game, you'll find these special golden charms which help fill in the blank spots and can change the story for better or worse. You also continue to grow a tree called the Chronicle, which grows as you make each decision and so forth, and becomes a crucial thing in learning all there is in Beacon Pines.

With a beautiful art style, cute looking characters and a great level of story telling, this is another win for Fellow Traveller. It's a very easy game to play with not too many complicated moments... well, maybe a few, but overall not enough to make me say "don't play this game". Yeah, not much else to say, except it's probably another game I'm not going to be playing much of, due to how very straight forward it is. But I did enjoy playing it, so there is that. 9/10
