So you may have noticed that Disney+ has changed its logo slightly and with it, a new intro for each of the newer original content. The first time I saw that new logo was with this very show, and the intro is actually alright. Not quite like the first where it feels like an orchestra getting ready to conduct, but good all the same. So let's talk about this show. It's based on a screenplay by Sally Wainwright, who is known for writing shows set in West Yorkshire and following strong female characters. Having seen some of her other work, I will say she does well with what she writes. So let's see what awaits us in this show:
In 18th Century England, Nell Jackson (played by Louisa Harland) is framed for a murder she didn't commit and quickly becomes the most feared highway woman in the country. With help from a magical sprite called Billy Blind (played by Nick Mohammed, aka Mr. Swallow), Nell soon realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined.
This show is OK. I'm not sure what I was going to expect with this, but I did find some enjoyment in it. It's got a good set of actors that are mostly unknown or not too famous that all play their parts well. The time period is set, kind of makes sense. It does make out that Nell and Billy are from some other universe, which could lead to something in future seasons. Yeah, pretty good first impression, and I don't know if I will see more of this if it gets renewed for future seasons. But a good start to what could be another great thing for Disney and, for once, something that feels more original than what they have done recently (play it too safe for the most part). 8/10
