Double TV Season Review - Gen V (Season 1) + The Boys (Season 4)

You know, I tend to stay clear of any controversy surrounding various things. It does make me worried about these things when I eventually play and see them, and when I heard The Boys was getting controversy, I got worried. One of the more decent shows in recent years and, for some bizarre reason, people have now decided that it has become woke. I don't like having things woke because it just ruins it all for me. I mean, if you want something that's woke, make something from the ground up that is exactly that and leave all these used to be beloved franchises alone. Star Wars, Doctor Who and so many other things that I still love, are just all being destroyed by woke and I don't like. I'm all for pronouns and I accept that we are not all going to be correct with our opinions on things, but please just leave it out of pop culture because if you don't, it may as well be worst culture. Anyway, let's dive into the latest season of the Boys and also a spin-off show I was told to watch before going into it (but to be honest, having watched both, it doesn't really matter too much orderwise):
Gen V (Season 1)
The main setting of this show is Godolkin University, an education facility that trains students with superpowers and pushing them to their limits, with the overall goal being that they get a spot in the Seven. With secrets revealed and lots of other things going on, it soon becomes clear that this university may not be as it seems. Often with these coming of age shows, there will of course be a very young and attractive cast which seems to be the norm now for these shows. Additionally, I wasn't sure how a show set in the Boys universe would work, but somehow it does. It retains all the mature elements of its parent show, being just as gruesome, fun, over-the-top and full of things that you'd typically see in a coming of age story that's tailored to mature audiences with some quite extreme themes being explored. Be interesting to see how season 2 will play out, especially as they will have to address Chance Perdomo's character, as he sadly passed away from a tragic motorcycle crash before production started. 9/10

The Boys (Season 4)
Set just 6 months after the last season, The Boys work alongside the CIA to deal with Victoria Neuman (reprised by Claudia Doumit) who is on the verge of taking the Oval Office, despite being under the thumb of one Homelander (reprised by Antony Starr). Billy Butcher (reprised by Karl Urban) meanwhile, with not much time left to live, tries to find a way to work with the Boys to save the world, despite losing his role as leader. Despite what most people feel about this season, I actually do like it when things go dark. We've always known for this and many other Prime Video shows that they don't hold back with the very mature elements, and honestly, I like it. It's probably far from a perfect season with so much emotional baggage in it and Homelander bringing in new recruits to The Seven that just make me want to vomit. But overall, not too bad of a season and looking forward to seeing how it all ends in the fifth and final season. 8/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
