Movie Review: X-Men: First Class (Cinema)

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!

Now I normally aren't into the Marvel universe but despite that, I decided to check this out anyway. So this pretty much explains the origins of the X-Men and The Brotherhood of Mutants. The film starts off seeing Prof. Xaiver and Magneto in thier childhood where Magneto's parents are taken away from him and Prof. Xaiver is in a mansion and comes across Mystique who he decides to have as a sister. We then cut back to Magneto where he has a very short reunion with his Mum who then gets shot by the main villian Subastian Shaw who we later find out is also a mutant who can absorb objects. We then go a few years later where Xaiver graduates at Oxford University as a professor while Magneto goes on a hunt to avenge his mother and kill Shaw. Later on we then go to what looks like Las Vegas where a female agent of the CIA goes undercover to find out information about Shaw and his team of mutants. She then calls the help of Xaiver who (with Mystique) goes with her to a secrect base somewhere in the USA and gets them an HQ where they can try thier powers out. Before that, they head to the sea to discover that Magneto is failing to get his revenge so he decides to join Xaiver's team and then they go to thier base where they meet a young scientist who up til this point, reveals his mutant powers. So after that, Xaiver and Magneto venture around the world to find mutants to join thier team (including: Banshee, Angel, Havok and Darwin (with a breif cameo from Wolverine), and they start to get to know each other, while Xaiver and Magneto begin thier mission to find and kill Shaw. They start at a mansion and manage to capture one of Shaw's minions which is the White Queen. Meanwhile the base is then attacked by the remaining members of Shaw's team who kill many of the guards and the guy who brought them there. Ultimately, Shaw just wants the mutants to join him, so Angel decides to join and Darwin decides to join as well but trys to stop them which ultimately kills him, leaving the others behind. Discovering what has happened, Xaiver decides to use his mansion as thier new base where from there, all of them get trained for a big fight later in the week. The young scientist trys what he claims to be is the cure to his mutation problem, but instead turns into a full mutant. the next day all of Xaiver's team (with the scientist now being known as Beast) head to what seems to be, the start of WW3 and go in an epic fight to defeat Shaw. All of the mutants give it all they got which ultimately see's Magneto get his revenge on Shaw and decides to form The Brotherhood with Shaw's minions and Mystique. Xaiver with the remaining mutants decides to form the X-Men and that ends the film.

While I don't watch any of the Marvel films, I found that this one surprised me greatly in terms of it being quite epic. 8/10
