iOS 5 Review (iPod Touch (4G), iPhone (3GS and above) and iPad 2)

When it comes to launching a new OS for various devices, Apple like to go big and IOS 5 is no acception. It has over 200 new features than before and could become an influence to other devices. So without further ado let's see what you can get on this.

Notification Centre
This has improved greatly. With IOS 4, each notification would come up one at a time. Now it shows multiple notifications in a list that looks similar to the one on Facebook. As well as that, (apart from the Home Screen) you can also swipe the screen from the top to enter the notification centre and check the waether without leaving the app which is pretty cool. 8/10
iMessage
This is a new feature for all IOS 5 users and works similar to Facebook chat. It allows users to have unlimited text messages which they can send to other users which is an avantage to iPhone users on contracts. it also allows users to send videos, photos etc. and can save the conversation when you exit the app so that you can start where you left off. Although a good addition, many devices use this already so there's nothing new here. 7/10

Newsstand
This is quite a unique addition. What this app does is that it can store all your digital magazines (app or iBook) into one place and will update from time to time with the latest issue of a magazine (you will need to subscribe to the magazine if you want to read it). Any new additions to this can be found on the App Store (this may change in a year or two when there's more digital magazines avalible). Its much like a eReader with magazines but still a good addition. 9/10

Reminders
This is a good addition. What this does is allows users to put down reminders on things that are either coming up or are urgent. When one is set up, you can then tell the app, what time to remind you so that when the time comes, it will alert you. I've yet to try this one out but judgeing on what it can do, its another good addition even if its been done on other devices. 7/10

Twitter
On most deivices now, they have one of the many social nteworks built into the device. Apple decided to go with Twitter for this. I'm not a Twitter user but with this now built into the device, it will allow Twitter users to use it to thier avantage. Like I said, not a Twitter user but its a realitively good addition anyway. 7/10

Camera
This is more of an update than a new feature. The zoomer on this has improved and you can go to this straight away from the lock screen which in a way is good for those unexpected moments that don't live long. Plus having the iPod/iPad/iPhone held on its side will make it easier for photo editing with your hands and also using the volume up button to take the picture. Photos will also be downloaded to the iCloud server if its set up (more on iCloud in a bit). Not much is new here but still good. 7/10

Photo
The only thing thats new here is the ability to do some photo editing and uploading to a iCloud server to use on other IOS devices. The Apple website has strongly reccomended to take photos using a iPod Touch or iPhone and use the photo editor on the iPad (best way really unless you have small hands). Nothing too new or innovative as most devices do this anyway. 7/10

Safari
Not much has changed here. Web articles can be read without ads or other kinds of clutter and it lets you save articles on the device and on a iCloud server to read on other devices. Plus tabbed browing comes to the iPad. While iCloud makes it better, its nothing too new. 7/10

Wireless Communication

This is what many users have been waiting for a while. The ability to set up the device AND wirelessly sync data to and from iTunes without the need of a cable. Not to mention that you can continue doing things on your device while it syncs data. Marvelous additions to the devices. 9/10

I've more or less covered the main new features so I'll quickly summerize the others. Mail now has some more text editing tools (Bold, Italic and Underline) and a few other features, Calendar now has a year/week viewer and has a couple of features to make it more user friendly, Game Center now shows recommendations, new games that you may be interested in and a newer achievement system, Multitasking comes to iPad (nothing new there), Airplay can now be streamed from iPad 2 and iPhone 4S to your HDTV using Apple TV to allow everyone to see what you're doing (a possible rip off from the Wii U), The update also makes it even more user friendly for people with hearing and vision problems, the iPod option has been spilt into Videos and Music on iPhone and iPad, and of course, Apple's cloud server, iCloud which comes to IOS devices for wireless communication and back up data between other devices and iTunes.

All in all, many of the features make it more user friendly and fun. The only major downsides I have is that the update cannot cope with certian things in the music app and the constant error messages I kept getting during the updates. Other than that, a fantastic way to start a new IOS system. Well done Apple!! 9/10
