Now to conclude my series of anticipated games of the year, I bring you Assassin's Creed Revelations. This is the 4th installment in the main story arc and the last to feature Ezio and Altair and also the last to be based in the Renaissance era. It's by far, the best game to date from a franchise that is worked on more than any other franchise by Ubi Soft with there being not only games but short films, comic books and novels. Does this game continue to give the fans something fresh? Let's find out:
Story:
The game takes place after the events of Brotherhood where Desmond is trapped inside the animus in a comatose state but finds a place known as the Black Room. To regain himself, he must find a key memory that connects himself, Altair and Ezio together which as you may expect, has to do with the Apple of Eden. In Ezio's story, Ezio travels to Constantinople to find a way inside the vault that's hidden inside the old Assassin stronghold (seen in the first game) which contains an artifact that has the power to end the endless, bitter war with the Assassins and the Templars. During his quest to find the keys to the vault, Ezio must once again start a revolution in Constantinople to gain one step closer to getting the keys to the vault which contain recorded and key memories of Altair's past which are events that take place before and after the events of the first game.
Once again, a very strong storyline for our 3 protagonists that once again delivers well. 10/10
Gameplay:
Many of the gameplay elements of the last few games are here along with some new ones. Ezio can now use the hookblade which works just like a regular hidden blade but has a hook that allows him to climb higher, use zip lines and kill enemies in newer ways. Capturing Templar areas are back but this time come in the form of Dens which can be controlled by Assassins by killing the Templar Leader in that area and ignite the flame on the tower (much like in Brotherhood) and then Ezio can assign an Assassin leader to protect the dens. If of course the dens are under attack, Ezio can help the assassins win it back by using strategic methods during the Templar invasion (which although difficult is a lot of fun). Bookshops now join the businesses that Ezio can renovate and killing officials is now easier. To replace Borgia Flags and Feathers from Brotherhood are data fragments (which help Desmond restore his memories on Animus island which are puzzle based sequences that look similar to the Portal ones) and memoric pages. For each memory sequence for Ezio are two memory mission types which are main ones and book ones (which help Ezio find the keys and show some love interest in a girl called Sofia) which can be done in any order and upon collecting the keys, You can then play key memories from Altair's time. Multiplayer is back with some new modes to try so check those out.
Despite being similar to previous games, the new gamplay elements make the gameplay fresh and new again so well done Ubi Soft!! 9/10
Graphics:
Character models for the veteran characters have changed in some way and we can now see Subject 16 in the flesh which is a good bonus. Loading memory sequences now take less time to do and the worlds look great and well detailed and cinematics look better than before. And with this game being the first in the series to be seen in 3D is a definite try out. Overall great work on the visuals. 9/10
This is bay far the best game in the series and its also a great way to see the end of Ezio and Altair's stories which round up and conclude all cliffhangers. Well done Ubi Soft!! 10/10
