Video Game Review: Sonic Generations (PS3, X360, PC and 3DS)

Now this is another game that's been highly anticipated by many. This year Sonic The Hedgehog celebrates his 20th anniversary with this game. Will it live up to expectations or is it another bad Sonic game? Let's find out:

Story:
Sonic (of the past) runs round Green Hill Zone and discovers a monster who then destroys Green Hill Zone putting Sonic into a space between time itself. In the present however, Sonic is celebrating his birthday with his friends and he too confronts the monster who then sucks Sonic's friends into different worlds and forces Sonic to also enter the space between time. Its now up to the 2 Sonics to work together to restore the worlds, rescue their friends, fix time and stop the monster.

A pretty predictable and straight forward story if I do say so myself. 7/10

Gameplay:
So there are a total of 9 worlds (Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, Speed Highway, City Escape, Seaside Hill, Crisis City, Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp) that come from 9 Sonic games (Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colours) that are split into 3 eras (Genesis, Dreamcast (despite Sonic Heroes not being released on Dreamcast but other consoles instead) and Modern). Each world has the original stage with new gameplay mechanics and graphics and a brand new stage but still based on that world. Both stages will either be using Classic Sonic (strictly 2D stages) or Modern Sonic (Sonic Unleashed/Colours like stages) and must be completed to restore the world and free one of Sonic's friends. the ranking system is now more friendly as it will be based on timing, rings collected and points and if you don't die throughout the stage, you'll be ranked up. Ranks remain the same. After all 3 worlds from an era are fully restored, challenges appear above them for you to try out. You only have to do one challenge for each world regardless of which Sonic you're playing as to get these boss keys so that you can defeat the boss and move to the next era. Chaos Emeralds are also required to complete the story. The majority of these can be acquired through boss fights and mini boss fights (which will appear as a character among the challenges). Also, there is a skill point shop where you can be skills and equip them to Sonic. In each level, there are some red rings which if you collect, you'll get some bonus content which can be seen in the area to the far left.

All of this make it one of the best Sonic games to date. 9/10

Graphics:
Graphics look similar to that of Sonic Colours but is rich in colour and movement. The cutscenes also look great and overall, a decent attempt for graphics. 8/10

This is by far one of the best Sonic games that I have played in a long while. It has what fans have been waiting for a very long time and definitely delivers. 9/10
