Movie Review: Tower Heist (Cinema)

Now a film with probably 2 of the greatest comedy actors to ever live is bound to be good. Whether its being a family man, a voice for a talking animal or just being silly, its good enough to be funny. Will this live up to my expectations? Let's find out:

SPOILERS!!!!

So the film starts off with Josh Kovacs and his boss Arthur Shaw (after a swim) playing a online game of chess. The next day, Josh heads to work after being harassed by his next door neighbour and criminal Slide and as any building manager would do, make sure that everything is running smoothly. He interviews a man called Enrique Dev'reaux (who for some strange reason looks a little bit like Angry Joe from Blistered Thumbs) for the job of elevator man and after some talking, he's then hired. The rest of the day is just work, work, work. The next day, Shaw attempts to flee the Tower (where they work) but is then captured by an FBI agent named Claire Denham who suspects that Shaw has been accused of a Ponzi scheme (which turns out to be true) and decides to keep Shaw in his penthouse until his innocence or guilt can be proved, with protection from the FBI and is not allowed to leave (unless he commits suicide). Lester (the doorman) attempts to commit suicide from a subway train but is saved at the last minute. Josh pays him a visit and Lester reveals that his pension due to Shaw being part of the scheme as well as other capitals too. Realising that this is too much to handle (and after explaining the situation to the other employees) Josh along with Dev and Charlie Gibbs (the concierge and Josh's brother-in-law) head to Shaw's penthouse and start wrecking his Ferrari after getting the wrong reaction from Shaw about Lester's attempted suicide. As a result of this, the 3 of them are then fired by Mr. Simon (their main boss). Josh then meets Claire at a bar and gives her some things that belong to Shaw that can help in his case. After a few drinks however Claire reveals that Shaw has a safety net of around $20 million hidden in his office somewhere and suggests that Josh should steal it. The next day, Josh gathers Dev, Charlie and Mr. Fitzhugh (a former resident at the tower who recently was evicted) to form a plan to steal Shaw's money. The next day, Josh bails Slide out of prison and after some convincing, Slide helps the team form a plan by training them up for the job. This involved shop lifting, playing with a picket and cracking a safe. Because none of them know how to open a safe, Josh gets Odessa Montero (the Tower maid and has a family of locksmiths) to help them out. Charlie then decides to back out and becomes the new building manager. Claire then phone's Josh up to tell him that the trial has been moved to Thanksgiving which as a result go down well. Dev then acquires Charlie's wife's phone for Josh to use to text Charlie about his wife giving birth. This as a result goes down well. The plan however slightly fails as Slide in disguise enters the Tower and traps Mr. Simon allowing him and the others to move on up. Josh, Dev and Fitz enter the Tower and after stopping the lift, use the stairs to enter Shaw's penthouse. Odessa then gives out birthday cake for people allowing Josh, Dev and Fitz to continue their robbery. Arriving at the penthouse, Dev puts stickers on the CCTV cameras and then find the safe hidden in a wall. Slide then tells them that he wants the money for himself but is soon stopped by Odessa who then cracks the safe but its then revealed that the safe is empty. Slide then shoots the car (after being harassed by Fitz) and everyone soon realises that its made of gold. Dev then goes to the cleaner crane and uses the controls to grab the car and move it down. Fitz then gets worried about things and then hangs for his life on the car. Josh and Slide then go down the cable to help him out. Fitz then falls but is rescued by Charlie who then decides to return to the team and help them out. The car is then pushed to the lift and after a small distraction, the team then with the car, descend on the lift (with Dev controlling it), sooner or later Josh gets Shaw's Ledger and abandons the car while Lester performs a distraction for the FBI. Josh, Dev, Odessa and Fitz are then arrested and taken to FBI HQ for interrogation. Josh's attorney arrives and gives them the ledger. As a result, Everyone except Shaw and Josh are freed from all charges and get a piece of the golden parts of Shaw's Ferrari while the actual thing rests in Shaw's pool.

Overall, its very action packed and funny like any of these films would be. Its not the best one I've seen but its still good though. 8/10
