This is the second LEGO ship that I have bought ever and it's also one of the most reconised ships from Pirates of the Caribbean. This version of the ship is based on its design from the sceond film 'Dead Man's Chest' and features only the key members of the ship at the time. Now to review it:
Boxart:
The boxart shows the ship in all its glory with Johnny Depp at the top in his Capt. Jack Sparrow form as well as what minifigs you get and also a free poster as well (like with Queen Anne's Revenge). Good stuff but nothing too special as such. 9/10
Building:
The building fo the ship I found was about the same amount of time as Queen Anne's Revenge and I also noticed that nearly all the instructions were the same as Queen Anne's Revenge which included the sails, the actual ship (not the features afterwards) and a few others. Despite being very similar to QAR, the building I found was ok. Not great, but ok. 7/10
Set Design:
A number of issues that I found with the set design, was that it is far too similar to QAR in terms of how it looks. There are of course a number of differences that stand out which include the ship being mostly black, there aren't as many features as QAR and of course, different minifigs. I would have to say that above all, this could've been better if LEGO decided to release this sooner than later. 7/10
Playability:
The playability in this set will possibly be just as long as the QAR set with it being very similar. You can use the cannons and remove the helm to reveal the cabin, but apart from those, there isn't that many to do. So for that reason, it will be a 7/10.
Overall, its one of the most anticipated sets of 2011 and with it having a number of issues, I can't see LEGO making any more ships sooner than you think. 8/10
