Movie Series Review: Star Wars (I-VI) (excluding spin-offs)

OK so I saw Episode 1 in 3D yesterday and I felt that rather than do a review of it (because its already been done by others), I decided to do the prequel and original trilogies in chronicle order. Now for those of you who are wondering where the spin-offs kick in, The Old Republic games take place before the prequels, The Clone Wars take place between episodes 2 and 3 and The Force Unleashed games bridge the gap between the 2 trilogies (all the other spin-offs I won't mention because most of them are lesser known). So with that out the way, let's take a look at Star Wars:

The Phantom Menace (Episode 1)
So in this film, two Jedi Knights, Obi-Wan Kanobi and his master Qui-Gon Jinn are given orders by the republic, to stop the Separatists from taking over the planet of Naboo. They do that by escorting the Queen of Naboo named Amidala and some of her people, off the planet and decide to head for the planet Coruscant, but after an attack by the blockade that the Separatists have made for Naboo, they then head fro Tatooine to both refuel and pick up Anakin Skywalker who Qui-Gon believes is the chosen one that some prophecy says. They then head to Coruscant to talk about things and then plan an attack to take back Naboo. For the rest of the film, the plan goes well and Obi-Wan loses his master to the hands of Darth Maul (current apprentice of Sideous) which Obi-Wan kills. Naboo is then free from further attacks by the Separatists and Obi-Wan is then made as Anakin's master. The film I felt had more dialogue than action which although is OK in some retrospects, can get overly boring after a while. 7/10

Attack of the Clones (Episode 2)

Set 10 years after the last film, Obi-Wan and Anakin learn of Sideous's new apprentice, Count Dooku who has caused the universe to go into civil war. As Padme (former Queen of Naboo) is facing some sort of assassination, Anakin decides to go with her and R2-D2 to Naboo where she will be safe, while Obi-Wan decides to confront the bounty hunter known as Jango Fett for information regarding a army being made and used by Palpatine for the Republic to use in the upcoming war. During the film, Anakin and Padme share a love for each other before heading to Tatooine where Anakin finds out about his father and sees his mother die in his hands. Obi-Wan meanwhile, is captured by Count Dooku and eventually captures Padme and Anakin. They are then sent into an arena to face 3 deadly monsters before the Jedi Council come into the arena to free them and face a battle against the droids (which somehow gets R2-D2 involved by putting C3-PO's head onto his original body and Jango Fett being killed). Soon enough, Yoda and the Clone army arrive to pick up the Jedis and Padme. For the rest of the film, The Clone Wars begin and Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda face against Count Dooku but fail to catch him as he escapes. This film I felt was better than the last film as it had more action and less dialogue so there. 8/10

Revenge of the Sith (Episode 3)
Set 3 years after The Clone Wars, Anakin, Obi-Wan and the Clone army are given orders by the Republic to rescue Palpatine from Dooku and his droidish apprentice, General Grievous (which they succeed in doing so but causing death to the Count). With most of the Jedis now spread out across the galaxy in the ongoing war against the Separatists, Obi-Wan is then sent to Utapau to kill Grievous to stop the war. Meanwhile, Anakin learns that his wife, Padme could be in danger and grows a close relationship with Palpatine who is later revealed as Sideous. As the Jedis face death after order 66 is commissioned, Anakin must now trust Sideous in order to save his wife. Yoda and Obi-Wan become the only survivors of the Jedi Council and decide to face against The Emperor and Anakin in what could possibly be the most epic of all battles in the Star Wars saga. In the end, Anakin gets reconstructed into the character we know as Darth Vader and Padme as expected dies, after giving birth to Luke and Leia Skywalker. The babies are then separated with Leia being adopted to Senator Organa and his wife and Obi-Wan gives Luke to his step family in Tatooine. Yoda and Obi-Wan then hide in various places across the galaxy waiting for the right moment to bring order and peace to the galaxy. This film I found, was the best in all of the prequels and possibly the most darkest film in the entire saga. Action and Drama throughout making it great. 9/10

A New Hope (Episode 4)
Set after a very long period of time after the last film (even though this was the first released film in the saga), a rebel ship is captured by Vader and his Stormtroopers who plan to capture Leia who Vader believes to have plans for the Death Star for the rebels to read. C3-PO and R2-D2 who are on the ship at the time, escape to Tatooine where they befriend Luke Skywalker and tell him about the imperial forces that plan to torment the galaxy. They then go to find Obi-Wan Kanobi and later on, former bounty hunter Han Solo and his co-pilot, Chewbacca (a wookie from Kashyyyk), who agree to help them free Leia from Imperial forces and then take down the Death Star (with help from rebel forces) which they succeed in doing so (Vader being the only survivor after its destruction). I find this film to be the best because it has what every Star Wars film should have. Less Dialogue and more action. Love it!! 10/10

The Empire Strikes Back (Episode 5)
Set 3 years after the last film, Vader is now on pursuit of Luke, Han, Leia and the others. The film opens with a battle on a planet in the Hoth system that Luke and Han are leading (with some input from Leia here and there). Vader, invades and destroys the rebel base there but fails to catch them as they escape. While Han, C3-PO, Leia and Chewbacca go into an asteroid field and then later end up in a battle between Rebels and Imperials, Luke and R2-D2 head for Dagobah which Luke believes will help him find the legendary Yoda who can help Luke train to become a Jedi. After escaping a battle and a space worm, Han and the others go to Cloud City to meet an old friend of Han's, Lando Calrissian and for a safe haven there. Sooner or later, the gang fall into a trap set by Vader and Lando is then put into carbonate which Boba Fett (now a bounty hunter) then takes to give to Jabba the Hutt (Han's former boss). Lando then helps the remains of the gang escape. Meanwhile, Luke and R2-D2 arrive on Cloud City and after a battle with Vader, Vader reveals to Luke (Spoiler Alert for those who haven't watched this) that he is Luke's father. Luke then escapes onto Han's ship, The Millennium Falcon, with R2-D2, a broken C3-PO and the rest of the gang as they escape Cloud City. The film then ends with Luke's hand being repaired and the droids and the Skywalkers watch as Lando and Chewy take the ship into space. This is indeed a crucial chapter in the saga and definetly one of the best. 9/10

The Return of the Jedi (Episode 6)

Set 1 year after the last film, Vader arrives on a still-in-construction Death Star 2 and upon arrival tells everyone on board that the Emperor will be arriving to monitor its final stages. Meanwhile on Tatooine, Luke and then gang plan a rescue mission to free Han and kill Jabba. Jabba then takes the droids as his own and captures Leia to be enslaved and in a way, act as a prostitute to Jabba. Luke and Chewy are also captured and are sentanced to death with Han, by being eaten by the Rancor, which they successfully avoid and with the rest of the gang (Lando also helped by acting as a guard for Jabba), they kill Jabba, Boba and the rest of Jabba's minions and escape. Luke then returns to Dagobah with R2-D2 to complete his mission but instead watches as Yoda dies with his last words, being that Luke is already a Jedi and doesn't need any more training. All the Rebels then meet to discuss a full on attack on the Death Star 2, which involves going onto Endor and asking the locals to help them take down the imperial forces there (which they succeed in doing so), and Lando leading a galaxtic full on attack on the Death Star and the remaining Imperial forces. Luke is captured by Vader and helps Vader take down the Emperor believing that Vader was once Anakin Skywalker (which they also succeed in doing so but causing Vadar to die). The whole galaxy is now at peace. A great ending to a great frnachise so yeah, well done Lucas. 10/10

Overall, the Star Wars saga does have its good and bad sides but overall, its still one of the best and iconic sagas out there in the film industry and wether Lucas does constantly re-release the films for perfection and to take avantage of the latest technology, its still good. 10/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
