Movie Review: The Muppets (Cinema)

For everyone's information, this was released in the UK a few weeks ago so for anyone who lives abroad, I apologise for the delay. Anyway, so this film is the first Muppet film made in several long years and is probably the first film distributed by Disney since their acquisition of the Muppet franchise. Its a great film filled with what any Muppet feature should have (comedy, romance, cameos, excitement, music etc.). I enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too. Time to review it:

SPOILERS (I don't know why I'm saying this seeing as all you people in the US have most likely already seen it)!!!!

Our film begins with a little backstory of the newest Muppet named Walter and how he grew up with the Muppets. Going to the present day, Walter is seeing off his brother, Gary as him and his girlfriend, Mary are going to LA to celebrate their 10th anniversary of dating each other. Gary then gets Walter to join them and after a musical number, The trio then head for LA. They come to the Muppet studios which has been abandoned and Walter enters Kermit's office. Hiding under a desk, the main villain of the film, Tex Richman, an oil magnate is buying the Muppet Theatre from Statler and Waldorf and has hired Bobo and Deadly to help him out. Walter then for the rest of the day, screams. Eventually he manages to explain to Mary and Gary about this and so they then go to Kermit's house where they meet the frog and his butler who I'm gonna call ROB because I can't remember his name and he looks a lot like ROB from the SNES. Walter then persuades Kermit to put on a show and raise enough money to keep the theatre and after another musical number, Kermit and ROB then help Walter, Gary and Mary to find the other Muppets using Kermit's car (which is the way it worked in the first Muppet film as Kermit describes). They manage to rescue Fozzie from a tribute band called the Moopets, Get Gonzo and the chickens to leave their business behind (Gonzo does this by blowing it up), Save Animal from a celebrity anger management clinic (with Jack Black being his sponsor and saying to keep him away from drums) and the other Muppets too. Kermit then thinks that all the Muppets are together but is then persuaded to find Miss Piggy who at first, decides not to join as she's far too busy, but then decides to join (and kicking her Moopet replacement out) but only comes for the other Muppets and not Kermit which is OK at first. The gang then go around to find a network to broadcast their show, but none of them want to. That is until the Muppets meet Veronica, an executive at the CDE network who gives them a 2 hour slot after a popular show gets cancelled. However there is a catch which is that The Muppets have to find a celebrity guest host. They then redo the theatre but after failed attempts from Kermit to find a celebrity host, he then confronts Richman and asks him to give the theatre back, but Richman refuses and tells them that the contract will not only destroy their theatre. but also their trademark, name and rights and plans to give them to the Moopets. Kermit then leaves in sadness which then leaves Miss Piggy no choice but to plan a kidnapping of Jack Black (which they succeed in doing). Kermit returns and all is well. Walter however is struggling to find out what his talent is and Gary is also coming to terms with what he should do with Mary and Walter. After another musical number, Gary returns to Mary who has returned home for that romantic date they had planned. The Muppet Telethon then begins and eventually brings people attention to it. Gary and Mary return and are able to foil Richman's plan of turning of the Telethon. Deadly then realises that while he's scary and has a funny English accent, he is still a Muppet and foils Richman's next plan. The show comes to a close with only $1 away from getting the studio back. Walter performs his act with Miss Piggy and Kermit's duet before it. As the Muppets leave the Theatre in defeat they are then greeted by all their fans and prepare for one last musical number. As the film ends, Richman, understanding about the Muppets, gives them back their studios and Gary then proposes to Mary. The film then ends after that.

Overall, from someone that has grown up watching the Muppets, this is by far, the best film I've seen with them in. The Muppets have never been better. 10/10

Oh and by the way, I won't be doing a film series review of the Muppets as they share no continuity with each other and I haven't seen them all yet. Same for the TV shows.

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
