Movie Series Review: Transformers (The Bay Trilogy)

Now to begin with, I wasn't a fan of Transformers. That is until I saw the third film of this trilogy and then became an instant fan of the franchise (despite the film being bad). After seeing the other films though, I thought that it felt rather repetitive in terms of what each film had that was the same as the others. Despite this, I still enjoyed them and I shall now do a review of them, 1 by 1.

Transformers:
The first film is basically just the Autobots and the Decepticons arriving on Earth and beginning their war while at the same time, involving the government, military forces and a boy named Sam Witwicky (played by the most annoying actor ever, Shia LaBeouf in all films) and his girlfriend, Mikaela Banes (played by the unattractive but apparently attractive according to Michael Bay, Megan Fox in this and the second film) to be on the Autobots side and defend Earth with them. An ancient artifact known as the All Spark arrives on Earth and lands in the Arctic Circle. Sam's (sort of) ancestor, Archibald Witwicky leads an expedition to find the artifact and instead finds Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving in all films), frozen and offline. The Government then put Megatron and the All Spark in a safe and secure area in the US somewhere, waiting for the right moment. The present arrives and the rest of the Transformers arrive on Earth and ask Sam to find his ancestor's glasses which contain the coordinates to the location of the All Spark. Sector 7 agent, Seymour Simmons (played by John Turturro in all films) , then rounds up the people who have had an encounter with the Transformers which include various military soldiers, hackers, government members and Sam and his girlfriend, to basically explain about the Transformers. Will they be able to find out their purpose and will the war between the two sides, affect their lives? The film was very good and is possibly the only Bay film that is actually good. 9/10

Revenge of the Fallen:

Two years after the first film, the Autobots now work alongside the military and government to defeat more of the Decepticons. Sam is getting ready for college and a piece of the All Spark gets into his mind, making him more vulnerable to the Decepticons. His girlfriend decides to keep the shard for his own safety and then goes to college. Meanwhile, a Decepticon known as The Fallen then has Optimus (voiced by veteran voice actor, Peter
Dark of the Moon
Its been a while since I first saw this at the cinema in 3D and despite being unnecessarily long, full of plotholes and of course, the bad acting, it is generally a great film that manages to bring us an epic final fight against the Decepticons which looks great in 3D. So during a mission, the Autobots discover that the Ark survived on the moon and go there to retrieve Sentinal Prime (voiced by Spock, Leonard Nimoy). While that is going down, Sam is now with a new girlfriend called Carly Spencer (played by British model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) and is looking for work, which has him do what he's done before (screaming, fidgeting and panicking which annoys the hell out of me). But when Sentinal Prime arrives on Earth, is he all that he seems in the end? Despite the things that make this film series as a whole, just plain bad, I did enjoy this film as I found it to be better than Revenge of the Fallen with the big epic final fight against the Decepticons being great and well done, but just far too long. Honestly I would've settled with like a half an hour fight, not an hour long fight. That's just too long. 7/10

So with a 4th film in the works, I can say that the series does have its bad moments (especially in the second and third films), but I have found some enjoyment in them. Not a great deal of enjoyment, but at least some. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
