Video Game Review: Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3, PSV and X360)

So we've had Smash Bros, Vs Capcom and MK Vs DCU, but a game combining two of the biggest and best arcade fighting games out there, was something that I thought couldn't be done, and yet it has. Has Ryu got the Hadukan to be great and can Jin fight his way to the top? Let's find out:

Story:
A cube like object has landed on Earth which contains great power. This has caused conflicts between characters from both games but is in no way, a rip off from MK vs. DC as the character teams (Ryu and Ken for example) have thier own individual story and each one has a different purpose in the battle. This works well as it allows players to understand why each character wants to get thier hands on the cube. Is it a good story? I've seen better but its ok regardless. 8/10

Gameplay:
As the game was made by Capcom (with Namco licensing the Tekken characters), the game uses similar gameplay to that of the Street Fighter games with EX Attacks which were first introduced in SFIV and other SF moves. The game allows players to have 2 characters in each fighting match but unlike Marvel Vs Capcom 3, once a charcter loses all its health, it will move onto the next round. The newest addition to gameplay is gems. Gems can be equipped and assigned to each charcter (3 each by the way) and provide easier controls and more power based on what the gem can offer. The game also introduces Pandora mode, where the character can sacrifice itself and allow the other character to have ultimate power and its power gauge bought up to maximum for unlimited use. a number of multiplayer modes are avalible with players controling each character in thier teams or controling both charcters in one team. On top of that, the roster of characters is the highest in any Street Fighter game to date with 25 characters from both teams and 5 exclusive characters for PS3 and PS Vita owners (Cole from inFAMOUS, Sony mascots Kuro and Toro and Capcom and Namco's mascots, Pac-Man and Megaman), coming to the total of 55 characters overall. Dan and Mokujin are the only regular characters from both games that are not playable but do appear in the game, with Pac-Man using a Mokujin styled robot to help him in his battles and Dan appearing as the training coach. Overall, some pretty good stuff for a fighting game. 9/10

Graphics:

Graphics are similar to that of SFIV and Marvel Vs Capcom. Providing cartoony styled detail to the Tekken characters which has never been seen before in the game's history. Some good arenas have been picked and offer the same cartoony feel which is always good. All the characters look and feel great as they should be so overall, its a win win for graphics. 9/10

Overall, the game has become the strongest game in the SF series and also the first non Vs. Capcom crossover game in a long while. Nice work Capcom and I cannot wait for Namco's take on it in Tekken X Street Fighter. 9/10
