Movie Series Review: The Avengers (Iron Man to Avengers Assemble)

So Marvel have done a variety of films based on their characters, which mostly have gone into their own trilogies (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man etc.). The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a way different because it focuses on more than just one superhero/team and is in a way, known as The Avengers trilogy. Most of these films have been great and will continue to be great as Marvel begins their work with Disney in the near future. Now let's take a look at these films, 1 by 1 to see how they live up to expectations:

Iron Man:
First film in the series, focuses on Tony Stark, a rich billionaire inventor of military weapons who one day is kidnapped by a group of terrorists after Tony leaves a military base from doing a weapons demonstration. The terrorists want him to build that exact weapon, but instead, Stark uses the materials he has to create a robotic Armour, strong enough for him to get out and return to his normal life. The robot gave such a huge impact on him, that Stark began to do more versions of the robot, eventually calling it, Iron Man and himself deciding to use it for the good of mankind. Its a great film that shows how everything that a billionaire ever wanted, gone from him in a matter of hours, but then getting it back with a new vision. Great film regardless!! 9/10

The Incredible Hulk:
Serving as an Avenger tie-in more than a sequel to the original Hulk film released some time ago, Bruce Banner, a medical student has fled from America into Rio where he works at a local bottle factory and uses his time to try and control the Hulk inside of him with help from a mysterious source simply known as Mr. Blue. Military forces (led by General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, the father of Banner's love interest) soon arrive and force him to return to America, where Bruce reunites with Betty, his love interest and must convince Betty's father to give him another chance. Little does he know, that a certain solider in the military is wanting a piece of the action and could cause total destruction. Comparing it with the original Hulk film, this one is significantly better in terms of story and action so good effort Marvel. 9/10
Iron Man 2:
Being the only sequel in the series so far, Iron Man 2 continues Stark's adventures where he now must help Nick Fury, form the Avenger Initiative but has trouble doing so as one of his old buddies has stolen some technology off him to give to a foreign inventor whom of which, has had an encounter with Stark in the past. Stark must now emotionally and firmly, come to terms with things and get back to the way he was. I find this film to be a step back from the last film as its more about The Avengers than Iron Man which is OK, but could be better. 8/10
Thor:
Based on the God of Thunder (in comic books that is), This film shows the origins of Thor, a god of thunder who after betraying his father's trust, is exiled to the human world and separated from his hammer which is under S.H.I.E.L.D protection for the time being (Nick Fury runs S.H.I.L.E.D for your information). Thor's brother, Loki, decides to go to Earth some time after and begins to cause mischief. Thor must now gain the right to use his hammer again and stop Loki from causing any more mischief. This is a great film in many ways. It gives you an idea of how the character lives on the human world and his own world. Good work Marvel!! 9/10

Captain America: The First Avenger:
Being about a solider from the past, this film tells the story of Steve Rogers, a solider who doesn't match up to expectations of the army. He then goes into a machine which then makes him muscular and able to fight in the war. Being a role model for future generations, Rogers must now fight among other solders in the war and take on the villain known as Red Skull. While this does take place before the other films (chronologically), it shows the life of a solider back in those days and how he must fit into the modern world with all his friends and allies, presumably dead or alive in a old folks home. Very emotional at times but still good. 8/10.

So while there's more films to come in this series, its one of those few superhero trilogies that adds more ideas and characters than using the same thing over and over again but making it better. In many ways, this is great and I can't wait for what they come up with next. 9/10
