Movie Series Review: Paranormal Activity (1-3)

I say the image above explains it all. Paranormal Activity is a series of independently made films that show how a paranormal demon can enter someones life and terrorise them. The series has had mixed to positive reviews which comes to as no surprise, but has been known to be one of the greatest horror films of all time. And here's why:

Paranormal Activity:
So the story begins in the year 2006 where young couple Micah Sloat (why is portrayed by a man of the same name which doesn't quite make sense) and his girlfriend, Katie (again, portrayed by someone of the same name but not the same surname) have moved to a two story tract house and have bought a camera. Katie has been terrorised by a paranormal demon all her life which has haunted her and her family (as revealed in the next film). Micah decides to mount a camera to a tripod every night in their room to monitor the activity of the demon when entering the room. It's presence is normally at night, but as the film goes on, it becomes angry and starts wrecking havoc in the day as well. This is truly a scary if not, strange film that is one of those rare films that truly show what independent film making can do. Very good stuff, but not for children nor people who are afraid of this kind of stuff. 9/10

Paranormal Activity 2:
Serving as a parallel prequel and follow up to the original film, we see Katie's sister, Kristi and her husband Dan Rey, return home with their newborn son, Hunter (who later in the film is revealed to be the first newborn male in Katie and Kristi's family). The discover that a burglary has taken place and as such, Dan decides to install security cameras around the building to watch the house of anymore burglaries. However, this instead ends up to be paranormal activity than anything else. While Dan and his daughter Ali, find that its funny and somewhat awesome, Kristi on the other hand isn't that pleased about it and then all the family (including their dog, Abby) experience the demon, hands on later in the film and begin to take necessary precautions to stop the demon. While I do find that it's slower with getting the demon doing its stuff, the film is good and is somewhat better than the first. It also explains a few plot holes from the first film (such as the burnt picture of Katie) and is very enjoyable. 9/10

Paranormal Activity 3:
Taking place several years before the first two films (apart from the first few minutes which explains a bit more about the burglary from the last film, having revealed that some tapes were missing), we see Katie and Kristi at a very young age who are living with their mother Julie and her boyfriend Dennis. Kristi has started to interact with an imaginary friend that she calls Toby (later revealed to be the demon) and since their first interaction, strange things have been happening in the house. An earthquake hits the house while Julie and Dennis are doing a sex tape (which due to the earthquake, goes as far as Julie in her underwear with Dennis still fully dressed) and as they leave the room to check on the girls, a invisible figure is seen when the dust falls. Dennis calls his friend Randy and he suggests that cameras should be put all around the house to monitor the activity. And you probably all know the rest (demon gets angry and starts wreaking havoc). While I find this film to have used up every single scare from the demon, it's still a good and satisfactory film which once again, resolves plot holes and shows us all, how the activity began, setting the events of the last 2 films. 9/10

Overall, the series has had its scary moments and is definitely one of the best horror films that I have seen. And I'm sure when PA4 comes around, we can expect the series to potentially come to a close with all the events seen so far. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
