Movie Review: Dredd (3D, Cinema)

Of all the comic book films that I have seen this year (excluding The Amazing Spider-Man which I've not seen), I found this one to be, in one word, badass. Dredd is a film that is not in any way, related to the original 1995 film (starring Sylvester Stallone) and is more true to the comic books of the same name. Since it's announcement, it's been one of those anticipated films of the year and is possibly the last comic book film that gets released this year. Now it's time for Judgement in my review:

Taking place in the future (don't know exactly what year so I'm going to assume in the 21st Century at some point), Dredd has been given the job to investigate the murder of 3 men in the slum tower block, Peach Trees in an attempt to evaluate an assessment of a rookie judge, Cassandra Anderson (who is a physic). Upon arrival, the block is then put on lockdown by Ma-Ma, A former prostitute turned drug lord and criminal kingpin who is the sole supplier of a new addictive drug, Slo-Mo. Now the Judges must fight their way to get to Ma-Ma to judge her for her crimes.

The 3D effects in the film, work brilliantly and are pushed to the limit. The story has a scenario that has been used a number of times in films, but thankfully, the filmmakers used the scenario well to make it fresh again. There's plenty of violence, adult themes and drug use (although with this being an 18 (or whatever rating you get) rated movie, that's to be expected) and like I said, it's true to its comic counterpart and like with Hulk and Superman, it's a film that has saved a franchise from extinction after a failure with it's predecessor. Overall, I give this film a 10/10. A must see for anyone who loves comics and violence.

  1. Good review Bill. It’s fun, bloody, and in-your-face, but it still felt like something was missing in the action-department at the end. I don’t know what it was, but something could have been a lot crazier about this material I feel like.

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
