Now I know what some of you are thinking. Why are you doing a review of a film that not many people know about and is only known at theme parks and attractions? Well that's because I wanted to do something a little bit different to my normal reviews and it's the only time I get to go to IMAX so don't expect regular reviews of any IMAX film anytime soon. So let's get started:
The film is basically a short retelling of the Apollo 11 story that took place on July 20th 1969 with some stereotypical flies thrown into the mix to make it more child and family friendly. The flies consist of an adventurous one, a fat and hungry one and a nerdy one who all share the dream of travelling into space, and they attempt to do just that by entering the Kennedy Space Centre Launch Complex 39 and putting on some space suits to go into space. Meanwhile, back on Earth, their mothers are worried about them (as any mother would be), whereas the grandpa of the adventurous one thinks it's time for his grandson to have an adventure.
Overall, comparing this to more recent animated films, this one has very basic and stiff animation, but uses the 3D effects well, without going too far with it. The plot is very straightforward and most families will enjoy it, but for me, I personally would recommend to all of you to only see this once and leave it at that, because it's not the greatest animated film I've seen, but it's definitely not the worst and also with it being IMAX, it's quite expensive too. 7/10
Oh I should also mention that Buzz Aldrin makes a cameo in this towards the end. Just saying.
