I'm sure a lot of you are getting sick to death of me going on about these Pixar films. Don't worry, after this one, there will only be a few more to go with the exception of Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo which I will do a review of alongside the sequels and prequels at a later date. I will also be reviewing the many Pixar shorts as well, but that will be all in one post. But let's now get back to today's film. Ratatouille is another one of those Pixar gems that everybody doesn't think much of to begin with, but after seeing it seems to be a great film. Its Brad Bird's second Pixar film and after the success he had with The Incredibles, can his next Pixar film do any better? Let's find out:
Remy (voiced by Patten Oswalt) is a rat who's ambition is to become a chief. He spends most of his time with a group of other rats which include his brother Emile and his father Django (voiced by Peter Sohn and Brian Dennehy respectively). When his clan is forced to leave their old home (which is an old lady's home), Remy gets separated from his clan and ends up in the sewers of Paris, which later lead him to his favourite restaurant (which was home to his now deceased hero, Auguste Gusteau). There, he comes across the kitchen and decides to create some meals, but sooner or later is found by the recently hired kitchen cleaner who may or may not be related to Gusteau, Alfrendo Linguini (voiced by Lou Romano). To begin with, Linguini is told to get rid of the rat, but refuses to kill which as a result, causes to 2 of them to be friends and in a puppeteer styled way, Remy takes control of Linguini and are tasked to create meals in the restaurant. But with a hard to please reviewer on the way and the kitchen staff and Remy's clan being suspicous of Remy and Linguini's actions, can they keep their secret for long?
Overall, having seen this a few times, its a great film. The characters show a lot of emotion to each other, the reviewer looks and sounds great, it was a great and original if not artistic film and for anyone who wants to see how a rat infestation in a kitchen works, this is the film for you. Another great film by Mr. Bird and I look forward to more of his work. 9/10
