E3 2013 Predictions + Xbox Live Event Report

I've moved this post to today instead of tomorrow, because I feel its only right to do that after what happened last night. With E3 only being a few weeks away from now, seems only fair for me to give you my predictions of the event, but given that all the 3 big companies have told us what they have for the 8th generation of gaming, it might not be as big as before, seeing as a number of big announcements were made last night and the last few months via streamed events. Regardless, there are still a number of things that need revealing so let's take a look. I'll also be covering the live event that happened yesterday as well, so let's get to it:

Nintendo
Nintendo were the company that began the 8th generation of gaming with both the 3DS and Wii U now out. However, there seems to be little to no games for both platforms, which have caused a lot of sale drops. That however may change at E3 where a lot of us are expecting the company to give us a massive amount of game announcements which they have promised to include the next Smash Bros game (which will be the first in the series to be on not only 2 platforms, but also the first on a portable platform and the first to be in HD), the next 3D Mario game, the next game by Retro (who were responsible for the Donkey Kong Country reboot and the recent entry in the Mario Kart series), the next Mario Kart game and a number of other announcements. Also in recent news, Nintendo will be attempting to do something similar to what they did last year (which was mostly a fail, but could be better this year) which will involve a number of different separate shows that will be aimed for different audiences and will focus on specific topics, both at E3 and via Nintendo Direct. Overall, Nintendo should have a good year this year, just as long as they don't screw up like they did last year.

Sony
I'm not really sure on what to expect from Sony, other than a look at the actual PS4 console (which wasn't shown at the live event earlier this year) as well as a number of game announcements. I would be interested to know if they will keep supporting the PS3 after the PS4 is launched so that will be interesting. Regarding any game announcements, a number of them were made at the live event so there's a high chance that those games will make an appearance  but in the form of on-stage demonstrations of those games which everyone loves a lot. As for Vita, not really expecting much other than game announcements and that's it. I'm hoping that there is at least, some news about the much delayed Last Guardian which if it continues to be delayed, looks to be a PS4 game than a PS3 game, but we'll see. Overall, Sony should be ok too, just as long as they give us the PS4's launch details, the look of the console and any more games for it as well as something for the Vita as well.

Microsoft
Now as someone who isn't a big supporter of Microsoft, but is interested in thier stuff regardless, I don't see them going far with their new console, the Xbox One. I am impressed with the hardware specs and the way Kinect will work with it, but thats it. I have no interest with sport (hate it alltogether), Call of Duty (hate it altogether) and even Halo (but despite that, I do like the idea of a TV series adaptation of it) and if there's one thing I hate about Microsoft more than anything, its that unlike Nintendo and Sony, they don't listen to the gamers, they don't give them what they want and they are just in it for the money. And if they are going to survive with the Xbox One, they need to really up their game because saying that you will have everything first on Xbox, makes you greedy and it doesn't really say much. An exclusive game means that it has features that you can only get on one specific console (such as DLC for example) or is only available for one console, not because you'll get all the content first and the others will follow a month later. That is not how exclusive games work as Sony and Nintendo will tell you and show you. Also I don't like the look of the console at all, and I don't like its name. The name is because it's unoriginal and makes you think, what was the point of Xbox and Xbox 360. Is this the first Xbox ever? No it's not. So in all honesty, at E3, I personally expect them to give us some games that people will actually want to play on this console that isn't all guns, sports or motion sensing.

So in a nutshell, I expect Nintendo to give us games for Wii U and 3DS (and with their system of having different shows take place, that seems very appropriate as thats all I expect from them this year, just as long as they don't screw up with the system like they did last year). I expect Sony to give us the PS4's console looks as well as some launch details and maybe a few games as well (and I especially, expect them to have at least one female presenter). And finally, I expect Microsoft to give us launch details and games that people will actually want to play, instead of sports, guns and motion sensing games. As for the independent game developers, I expect to see some gameplay of the next Batman Arkham game and I would like to find out if EA are still willing to give Nintendo consoles, some games after they recently stated that they won't support Nintendo any longer. Thats it. I hope E3 is good this year and as long as all the things I expect from everyone, is done, I will be happy.

Now I will mention this in my monthly update, which is that usually I would put up a report of E3 after the event has ended, but because I will be on holiday when it happens, I'll do one when I get back so don't worry. Its definitely happening.
