Random Video Game Review - Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe

In Midway's last game and WB Games first game (or at least, first with the first mature rating for DC Comics, according to various sources) before Midway and WB Games Chicago turn into NetherRealm Studios, we get quite possibly, the most unexpected crossover in the history of crossovers. As the title suggests its a crossover between the violent game series, Mortal Kombat and the much loved, comic book company, DC in a game that asks the question, which is better out of the 2? So let's get reviewing it:

So taking place outside of both franchises' main stream storyline, we get Raiden taking down Shao Khan and sending him through a portal, while at the exact same time, Superman sends Darkseid into the boom tube. Both portals collide, making the creature Dark Khan and causing both the DC and MK universes to collide. As such, this causes all the fighters in the game, to gain something known as rage, which makes them get very angry and stronger than what they are meant to be, and as such, both universes blame the opposite world for this invasion, unbeknownst to them that something else is the responsible culprit. The game has the majority of the most popular characters in both universes such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Joker from the DCU (among others) and Raiden, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade and Jax from the MK universe (again, among others). The story can be played from the perspective of both universes which despite being very similar to each other, is actually pretty good. The control system is your typical fighting control system with each of the 4 main buttons, representing the attacks to the corresponding limb. In addition to this, there is also a system that allows you to send your opponent flying off the main arena (a thing that is later seen in Injustice: Gods Among Us) as well as close up attacks as well, both of which I think resemble the DC side of things. Another thing introduced is Rage mode where you or your opponent will use rage to be stronger for a short period of time. And no Mortal Kombat game wouldn't be complete without the fatalities. The fatalities work the same way they have always worked with the majority of Mortal Kombat characters and DC villains having fatalities, while DC heroes have whats called Heroic Brutalities which works the same way by slightly different.

Overall, this is a great game that is both unexpected, but had to happen at some point. The story while very similar from both perspectives, is very good, the character selection is great, the gameplay is great, it's just all great. Only downside is that some of the fan favourite voice actors (Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly to name a few) aren't in this, however I could be wrong, but it is quite disappointing. But its a good game nevertheless (and don't worry, we'll be looking into the other Mortal Kombat games at a later date so stay tuned). 8/10
