Movie Series Review - Kick-Ass

Who would've thought that some not so well known comic books (in my eyes anyway) could turn into great films. Kick-Ass is one of those franchises that shows you the good and bad side of being a super hero in the real world, where as we all know, bad guys mostly win, compared to fiction where it's vice versa. Its a great series of films that I hope continues to be great. But in all honesty, is it a "kick ass" series of films? Let's find out:

Kick-Ass
So we come across a group of nerds who are just your typical nerds who like comic books, always get beat up at school, got the hots on some women that in a way, are out of their league, but not as much as you think. Do I need to go on? One day, one of the nerds named Dave Lizewski (played by Aaron Johnson) purchases a bodysuit and after making some modifications, embarks on a campaign to become a real superhero. He attempts to put an end to his bullies, but fails when they stab him in the stomach (and then for the majority of the film, everyone believes that he is gay because of how the incident was described to them which I won't go into too much detail here). Over time, he becomes able to handle pain and all that kind of stuff in a similar way to how Batman does it and after successfully fighting against some criminals who were after an innocent man, then becomes well known and gets his own fan base which as a result, has more heroes come about, but it isn't long before a Mafia gang get their members killed which then causes the boss to hunt down Dave as his superhero persona, Kick-Ass and put an end to all these things from happening, but is Dave the one responsible for these murders and will it all end well? You'll have to see it to find out. But for me, I thought it was a very good film that does everything that you should expect a superhero film to do. All the characters are great, the story is great and there are a even amount of both humour and violence to go around, which I love in any film that I see. 9/10

Kick-Ass 2
So after 3 years of waiting we get another film in the Kick-Ass trilogy, though its not as kick ass as the first one was. Since beating D'Amico's gang of mobsters (who by the way is played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse in both films, buts serves as the son of a mob leader in the first film), Dave and Mindy (who is Hit-Girl and is played by Chloe Grace Moretz in both films) have both given up being superheroes with Mindy promising to fulfil her now deceased father's wishes to live a normal life (which has some pretty kick ass and cringe-worthy moments) and Dave trying to find out his purpose in life, but is still in contact with Mindy (which results in his girlfriend breaking up with him due to a misunderstanding). However that all changes when he gets invited to join a team of real life superheroes led by the superhero Colonel Stars and Stripes (played by Jim Carry who by the way was not in the last film becuase everyone knows about him not doing sequels unless he says otherwise and chose to not promote this film because of the amount of violence in it) who have been inspired by Kick-Ass to do what they do best, help people and stop crimes from happening. Meanwhile Chris D'Amico is hell-bent on getting his revenge on Kick-Ass and as such, forms a team of real super villains to take down Kick-Ass and his forces. Only one of them will succeed.

Now unlike the last film, this had moments that were kick ass and some that weren't so much kick ass. A lot of the casting has changed and while many of you may not notice it (because that casting has only minor roles), I did and thought that it was a bit out of place. The film to me, felt like more of a Hit Girl film with Kick-Ass playing a small role, but that's not a bad thing by any means. All the super heroes and villains are great and sometimes over the top, but still great and they all get a chance to shine in the film and I love every second of them in action. Lastly, there will be a few moments that can in a way, make this a chick flick with some bitchiness going on and the appearance of a Union J music video I thought wasn't really necessary because it just further makes the film a chick flick and can anger fans of the original film and comic book. But don't let any of those things fool you as despite those things, its still a kick-ass film. 8/10

So while there may be a third film in the works, I hope that the series continues to be kick ass and continues to be as great as it did to begin with. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
