Doctor Who Review - The Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee)

So now we come to the last of the doctors whose original actor has passed away. The Third Doctor was played by Jon Pertwee for 4 years (1970-1974), at the time, the longest regular run for the actor that plays the titular character and also appeared in the 20th anniversary special, a charity special and an on stage show as well before his death. He was also the first Doctor to be seen in colour as well.

To begin with, due to the events of what happened before the second doctor regenerates into the third, his  early adventures are mainly on Earth alongside UNIT, until he regains control of the Tardis where he travels alongside such companions as Jo Grant and Sarah-Jane Smith (played by Katy Manning and the late Elizabeth Sladen respectively). Pertwee's doctor had a fascination with gadgets and machinery which he chose to explore more of, during his time as the doctor and would later have a favorite car, a canary-yellow vintage roadster that he calls Bessie. He has a form of arrogance which you see a number of times, but is very caring towards his companions but had both an admiration and a grudge for his nemesis, The Master (another time lord who is his archenemy who suffers with the constant sound of drums and wants to take over the universe and as time lords would go, he is played by various actors) as well as the "at the time" UNIT Leader Brigader Lethbridge-Stewart (played by the late Nicholas Courtney), the latter of which he becomes friends with. He is very energetic and is prepared to physically confront his enemies, whereas his predecessors would just flee.

As the doctor, Pertwee continues to evolve the character and making him more likable as time goes on and his likeness for technology would be explored more in later incarnations. 9/10
