St Trinians
Our film begins with what looks like to be an upper class girl called Annabelle Fritton (played by Talulah Riley) being taken by her father to St Trinian's, a school of which, is being run by her Aunt Camillia (both she and the father are played by Rupert Everett) and what a shock, she hates it for it being the school that it is and tries everything to fit in and get out, with some quite funny consequences. The school has a bunch of girls who seem to have odd personalities which has them put into various groups such as Geeks (for the girls that are very smart), Chavs (self-explanatory for those who live in the UK, but for those of you who don't, they are basically lower class people who have very little income and have some odd way of using the English language), Posh Totty (the upper class girls), Emos (Those who like to keep in the shadows and are emotionally troubled) and the first years (the very young girls). But will Annabelle be persuaded to stay at the school and will her skills be needed for something that the school needs to survive? Its an OK film for the most part. Its funny when it needs to be and some of the jokes are good, but as a film, its not one of the greatest that I have seen, but it is by far one of the many chick flick films that I actually like. 8/10
The Legend of Fritton's Gold
Unlike the first film where it was just establishing the setting, the characters and of course the school, this one is more of a treasure hunt film. The girls return to St Trinnian's and Annabelle is put forward as the new head girl. As the new head girl, she finds out about some things to do with her ancestors involving some form of treasure, but to get it, they will need 2 rings which once put together, they will reveal the location of the treasure. But when they discover that there is another person who is part of a secret society who also wants to find the treasure, will they find it before this secret society does or will it be too late? As much as I enjoyed the last one, I thought this was just as good. It doesn't have as many good jokes as before and the resolution of it is kinda silly, but on the whole, its just OK, much like the last one. 7/10
So while both films aren't as good as the original ones, at least it was a good attempt to bring the franchise back after a 27 year hiatus and who knows, maybe the third film (if they ever get around to doing a third) will be better or just as good. 8/10
