Movie Series Review - Final Destination

The above image may give you some nightmares tonight, but I digress. Anyway, so this is a film series that just tells you all that death can't always be cheated on and while I do admit that the series feels like the same film over and over again, its the scenario that makes them (or at least some of them) great. With that said, let's take a look at them:

Final Destination
A bunch of teenagers are on a school trip and go on a plane. The plane begins to explode and kills everyone, but this turns out to be a vision that one of the teenagers has, which forces him and some of his classmates and a teacher of his, to leave the plane. As it turns out, the vision was true and the plane does indeed explode, killing everybody on board. They may be safe for now, but death will be coming to get them at some point. Despite the very straight forward plot that the film has, I thought it was pretty good. There is a lot of suspense in the film which works pretty darn well and I think those who like creativity in films, will like this film. 9/10

Final Destination 2
Taking place one year after the last film, we get the same scenario, but with new characters, a new vision and more creative ways of dying. In this instance, the vision comes from a college student who is on holiday with her friends and the vision shows her a pile up that happens on Route 23 which you guessed it, kills everyone. She manages to prevent some people from entering the highway and the events of her vision, becomes real and it isn't long before each person faces death. It should be noted that the visions that these people have about death, all show the survivors getting killed in a certain order and it remains that same order for each person, but if the next person on death's list manages to avoid death, he/she is skipped and it moves on to the next victim, but that doesn't mean that they are safe, at least for now. As for what I thought about the film, despite it being similar to the last film, I found some enjoyment in it and it continues to have suspense throughout which I like. 8/10

Final Destination 3
As the poster implies, the vision this time around is to do with an incident involving a roller-coaster and the person who has this vision is a female senior high school student and school photographer. And as you will come to expect, no one is safe from death. If I'm being completely honest, its nothing new or interesting. Its just the same scenario as before, but used in a creative way to try and make it fresh and new. For me, I didn't like it as much as the other films. 7/10

The Final Destination
The first film in the series to be shown in 3D and well its more or less the same thing. The vision that a male college student has, shows him and his friends at a car race that goes horribly wrong, killing them and many other people. They and a few others get out and the event starts to happen in reality, but that doesn't mean they are safe from death. This is the worst film in the trilogy as it attempts to take advantage of the 3D effects a little too much, making it cheap and useless and has no focus on the story whatsoever. The cast isn't that great either. 7/10

Final Destination 5
In the currently last film in the series and the first to act as a prequel to the first film (although that's not the case until much later in the film), a group of emplyees from the same companey, are presumably on a buisness trip, but as the move on the North Bay Bridge, the bridge begins to collapse, killing everybody on it. That became a vision for one of the workers, who along with his collegues, leave the bridge before its destruction, but it doesn't mean they are safe from death, but at least they can find out about it and how it works (unlike before, although others did try to do that with no success). Considering the failures that the previous 2 films were, this was a second chance to make a good 3D film and continue to use the same scenario in a creative way, but did it work? I'm saying yes, because the 3D effects are now used in better ways than before and are in no way cheap or useless. As for the scenario, its the same as before, but its clear that a lot of creativity went into this film and I honestly think its great. 9/10

So in my honest opinion, a film series that uses the same scenario in every film, may not always work, but at least it can tell us that regardless of what happens in life, we can't always be safe from death. 8/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
