Random Movie Review - Frozen

Now this is one of my most requested reviews as most of my friends and family wanted me to see this and after countless requests and in a way tortures with the main song "Let It Go", I ultimately decided to buy it on Blu-Ray because of how good people say it was and saw it. I avoided it at the cinema because well, I did. Well there is also the reason that having seen the trailers, I wasn't sure if it would work after Disney had hits with Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph and having now seen it, I feel gutted that I didn't see it at the cinema. So by popular demand, here's what I thought of it:

So based on Hans Christian Anderson's Snow Queen (the second Disney to be based on his work, the first being The Little Mermaid), we come across some kind of royal family which rule the land known as Arendelle. We meet 2 princesses who are sisters called Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel who I last saw getting pulled from the real world into an animated fantasy world in Enchanted) and Anna (voiced by Kirsten Bell who I last saw voicing a double agent in the first 3 main Assassin's Creed games) who are both destined to rule the land. One night, Anna plays with Elsa who has freezing powers much like Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians (believe me, I've seen fan art and fan fiction of them together) and she accidentally freezes her head. She and her parents (the king and queen in other words) take Anna to the trolls where they seek help from the troll king, Grand Pabbie (voiced by Ciarain Hinds who was Dumbledore's brother in the final Harry Potter film) who is able to heal Anna by erasing her memories of Elsa's powers and put in similar memories in its place. For the next few years, Elsa tries to control her powers by isolating herself in her room, making her and Anna more apart then ever. Years pass and the king and queen leave the land, only to die at sea. The day of Elsa's coronation arrive and millions come from afar to witness the event. Anna falls in love with this guy called Prince Hans (voiced by broadway actor, Santino Fontana) and they decide to marry. But when Elsa refuses to give them her blessing, her powers start to come alight and she is forced to flee the land. With an eternal winter at hand, its up to Anna to find her sister and restore the land before its too late, making some interesting allies along the way, while leaving Hans the kingdom in his capable hands.

Now a lot of people who have seen this, have compared it to The Lion King so when I bought this, I also bought The Lion King as well, not only for this reason, but as you all know, its my number 1 all time favourite film and its going back into the Disney Vault very soon. And seeing them both, I can see where the comparison lies. Both films have a royal family with a king or queen that rules the land, but the heir to the throne is forced to flee, but for different reasons with one taking place before he becomes king with the reason being that he feels responsible for his father's death thought we all know that it wasn't (Simba) and the other after she becomes queen and thanks to her misusing and revealing that she has powers and attacks her sister in the process (Elsa). But putting that aside, I thought it was a great film. The animation is great, the characters are great and fun, the music is top notch and whether or not this marks the beginning of a new Disney Renaissance, its one film that looks like it will never be let go as the main song says. Though I will say that it does have a little comparison to the first Narnia film as well, but it not as easily seen as the Lion King one. 9/10
