Video Game Review - Angry Birds Epic

So, I haven't touched on Angry Birds in a while and while the idea of reviewing the updates on already released games may not be a bad idea, it is a time consuming one and to be honest, it doesn't really make that much of a difference to gameplay. Sure updates are nice and keep the games fresh and new, but beyond that, its nothing really worth talking about in my honest opinion. But a new game on the other hand, now that is worth talking about. So Angry Birds has tried a number of things such as a seasonal game, a crossover and tie-in with Rio and Star Wars, a racing game, a spin off title featuring the bad pigs and even an online tournament game as well. They even have masses of merchandise and a cartoon series and a film in the works. So after all that, where do they go from here? Well surprisingly, they go in the RPG route and give us this game. Is it worth your addiction? Let's find out:

So the story is more or less the same as the original game where the pigs take the eggs from the birds and they must try and get them back, only this time, its in the style of an RPG. Until updates to the game arrive, you get to play as Red to begin with and you'll get the other birds as you go. For the most part, the birds you get are the original cast of them before others were added to the mix. Each one has skills that help in combat which can either affect them or the pigs. It has everything that an RPG should have with items, weapons and armour and Paper Mario style battles with the choice to pick whichever bird you want in any order you want. It also has a menu system that makes it look good too.

Not much else to say really. As an RPG, I wouldn't say its the best one because it lacks a lot of things that more mainstream RPGs like Kingdom Hearts and Paper Mario have, but that doesn't mean its bad in a way. Its a welcome change of pace from the standard Angry Birds gameplay that we're bound to expect from Rovio and It can be as addicting, fun and frustrating as the other games which is what makes Angry Birds, great. I honestly don't have a problem with it despite its always online and in app purchases things that always feel like a downside in a number of iOS and Android games, but its not the best Angry Birds game out there. But give it time and who knows, maybe it will become great, but we'll see. 7/10
